There are several religious faiths surrounding cows (and other cattle), some believe that they are the vehicles of God and others believe that they are like mother (aka Gai Mata). The respect which cows use to get centuries back has long gone (among more than 90% of the Hindus) but still some sentiments do exist. Coming to the point Nowadays the so called COWS (mothers) are wandering on the Streets and Roads creating a MESS all over.
The problem of stray cattle on roads is not new but presently, the stray cows (and other cattle) are creating a HAVOC on UDAIPUR CITY roads and highways which bring the flow of traffic on busy roads to a standstill and sometimes more or less these even lead to some accidents which is one of the greatest cause of concern today even their dung causes dirty roads, cluttered parks and clogged sewers which in turn creates the City Unclean resulting in Diseases. They can be seen taking a nap anywhere, even in the middle of the road. Sometimes they get agitated and attack humans as well. These Strays give a Backward Impression to the Tourist City Of Udaipur.
MONIL KALRA (18) , realized this the hard way when his two-wheeler collided with a herd of cattle at AHAR road on last Sunday. MONIL got some injuries in the mishap.
Busy areas or market places such as Jagdish Mandir , HathiPole, Delhi Gate, Sector-13,14 ( housing main roads), Town hall, Thokar Choraha, Sector 3,4,5,6 (Hiran Magri) , FatehPura (crossroad), PratapNagar (highway) etc… Already suffer from congestion due to Encroachments, Mismanaged Parking and High Traffic Inflow. And especially during monsoon, this situation becomes worse as stray cattle occupy the roads and it’s too troublesome to travel through these roads.
WHAT CAN BE DONE ???? (And is being done)
Most stray Cows (and other cattle) roaming in the streets of city are unhealthy cows, they do not live on grass or other hygienic foods. Most of these cows constantly eat food from garbage dumps and leftovers. Even though it may not be obvious, but may be many of them can be actually diseased or sick.
Although most of these cows come from illegal or unregistered roadside dairies and cattle sheds or may are actually left by owners because they become old, stop giving milk or simply because they cannot afford them anymore. The government can impose strict penalty on owners of these stray cattle. Their water and power connections can also be disconnected. But, Municipal leaders often do not take action because it can damage their vote-banks.
Ideally these should be removed and sent to a forest where they can live their natural life. Before sending them to a preferred location they should be sterilized so they cannot reproduce further. Creating shelters on outer city limits is a good idea but it will not happen due to the budget constraints of our government. So there are some stray cow catchers available in city for the help of government and even many NGO’s and other groups (aka sansthans) can be hired by the government who will provide their Services for the Cause.
In Fact in My Opinion, It is very simple to settle this problem if all the stray cows (and other cattle) are given proper behavior and this may eventually create jobs as cow is the source of all dairy products. Things are simple though they look difficult its easy and interesting if everyone have willingness to come together and take some initiative to get rid of this problem. Let’s work for welfare of our city.

INCIDENTS faced by our citizens:
1.) A Real heart enthralling and tragic miss happening occurred on
SUNDERWAS main road at 9.00 am (August 30, 2010). A college student TOSIFF KHAN (20)
s/o SALIM KHAN a resident of DHOLI BAWDI died ON THE SPOT in A BIKE
ACCIDENT.
According to the source and witnesses, he lost his balance on his bike and got
hit to A STRAY COW and fall down, an approaching HIGH SPEED DUMPER
behind him crushed TOSIFF which resulted in his ON THE SPOT death. The
STRAY COW also get INJURED. After the accident the DUMPER DRIVER
ESCAPED.
TOSIFF was a B.C.A s student at RAJASTHAN VIDYAPEETH COLLEGE
PRATAPNAGAR and was the ONLY SON in his family.

2.) MONIL KALRA(18), resident of PRATAPNAGAR had an accident at AHAR
road when an agitated cow (by some source) crashed with his bike resulting
which he got injuries on head and hand but got saved from severe due to the
USE OF MANDATORY HELMET .

even tried for help BY THE PARSHAD for the issue (govt. authority of the AREA) but didn’t got any convincing results.

Hi All,
I agree that there is a problem with cows and bulls wandering on the streets.
BUT, I don’t believe the problem is because of the “nuisance” they create.
I think it’s a problem because cows need grass to graze on, soft earth, lots of space, and good food in order to be happy. On the street, they stand on cement all day, are forced to eat plastic, and can only find one place to sit: the road.
I don’t think they are a nuisance.. here’s why:
Let me ask a question: Who poses more of a risk to public safety,
Someone speeding on bike through narrow road in city,
or
A cow, standing still in the road?
The cows are standing in the road in plain sight, while men and women on bikes whiz by.
I have been in two accidents, both were caused by getting hit by another vehicle, not because I drove into a cow on the street.
So, more a nuisance to me are drivers who drive at such speed that they risk the lives of others around them, people and animals both.
No one is in such a hurry that they should kill a person, child, or animal. Why not dive a bit slow and save lives?
The solution to this is not easy because when cows are taken out of cities they are usually sent to be slaughtered for thier leather to make shoes and handbags.
Is that a solution?
I wish we could find a beautiful place with bigha upon bigha of land, with water, protection from sun and rain, etc, etc, etc,… but till now there is no such place that I have seen. .
Please, don’t blame the cows. This is a problem that WE created. WE used the cows for money, selling milk that was meant only for thier calf (not for us) and WE dumped them on the street.
Let’s blame ourself and try to drive slowly, protection human and animal life, and encourage the government to allot land specially for cows AND bulls who are no longer producing milk.
On a final note, thanks for thinking of public safety and I hope you can understand couple of my points, from the animal’s point of view.

On 12th Aug , my father was injured due to the stray cows in HM sec 4 , we called up the local parshad and asked to help. There are several other case in the city involving the stray animals. The authorities must take action now.

Let me tell u an incident..once i was driving on bn colg road in early morning..road was very clear..so obviously speed was high.. and a cow was crossing road dat time… i slowed down… but cow again stepd back nd gave me way… so i raised speed again..she was confused may be afraid…she again move forward nd i crashd on her… wen i came home… my father asked me how u had accident.. i told it was all cows fault…(lolz i ws pretendng..said meri koi galti nhi h ..gaay ki galti h)..my dad said…y we call dem animals ? dey dnt have sharp mind like humans…jaanwar ki galti kabhi ni hoti h ..wo sahi karta h humehsa..tum use samaj nhi paate… watever..leave d part..

I hope u had HEARD ABT NANDI BULL (a male COW) who used to be a vehicle of LORD SHIVA (Shiv bhagwan) ,so is considered as the symbol of respect for all cattle and so WE HUMANS used to RESPECT COWS..
The cow were venerated as the mother goddess in the early Mediterranean civilizations. The cow became important in India, first in the Vedic period (1500 – 900 BCE) coz In the Mahabharata, we have Bhishma saying: “Cows represent sacrifice. Without them, there can be no sacrifice…Cows are guileless in their behaviour and from them flow sacrifices…and milk and curds and butter. Hence cows are sacred…”
Bhishma also observes that the cow acts as a surrogate mother by providing milk to human beings for the whole life. So the cow is truly the mother of the world. [for more info u can refer to JC Heesterman in The Encyclopedia Of Religion, vol. 5.]
SO FROM THAT PERIOD THE COWS WERE KNOWN AS OUR MOTHERS..

Muncipal council at town hall has appointed one person, who is managing all these animals. We can contact him to clear the roads… Otherwise there are many accidents are happening….
@chandresh ji : ya i saw that the NAGAR PARISHAD took 28 cows frm the ROADS yesterday nd even fined an OWNER 800 rupees who left his CATTLE on the STREETS…
