IIM Banglore faculty appointed the new director of IIM Udaipur

One of the Hottest and Deeply searched topic in Udaipur right now is the newly set up IIM (One of the Country’s best brand of MBA Schools). Though everyone in Udaipur is quite excited and proud to have it here, allow us to give you guys another reason to cheer for it.
Recently Janat Shah, a faculty of IIM-Bangalore has been given the responsibility to head the IIM Udaipur.

About Janat Shah:

A graduate from IIT-Bombay in mechanical engineering (1980),  he undertook a PhD programme in ‘Operations Management’ from IIM-Ahmedabad in 1989. He joined IIM-Bangalore as faculty in 1991,after working at IRMA in Anand for two years.

His expertise lay in Supply Chain Design, Manufacturing Strategies and Service Quality, apart from this he even taught these subjects at IIM-B. His father Mr. Ghanshyam Shah wanted his son to become a Chartered Accountant, but later he was convinced that Janat belonged to a different genre.

Mr. Janat also has a rich experience of working in the corporate sector and has published many research papers alongwith writing articles and editing books, contributing valuably in the field of management studies.

Apart from all this he is a pioneer in studying the BPO sector in India and is certainly a promising figure in propelling IIM Udaipur to the heights of success. 🙂

Rajasthan Motor Club Organises Rally on 12th June

Udaipur today is listed among the few cities which has its own car club as well an independent social club named Rajasthan Motor Club ‘RMC’. It’s one of its kind of club in India which with the help of its members conduct Mass Level Outdoor Activities carrying a “Social Message” for creating awareness.RMC will provide platform to all members who want to come together and add something for the betterment of the city.

About RMC:

RMC is a club launched in Udaipur with a motive of providing an enthralling experience for its members.  It is a club which will conduct Outdoor Activities where ‘long trips’ will be conducted for its members. There will be weekend trips as well as Monthly Trips where members will take part in a Trip which will carry a “Social Message“.

Soon they are planning to conduct a Social awareness rally about Anti-Corruption.

About Anti Corruption Rally:

The Rally will be conducted on 12th June, 2011. This event will comprise of 45 cars along with associates and will be supported by Autokam Honda (Distributor Honda Siel Cars) who will provide 2 of their Honda Civic and Honda City cars.

The rally as per the schedule:

  • Will start at 3 p.m. on 12th june 2011 from Sahelion ki badi to Sukhadia circle.
  • From Sukhadia circle will move to Fateh sagar.
  • From Fateh sagar will reach to chetak circle.
  • From Chetak circle will proceed towards delhi gate.
  • From Delhi gate will continue towards bapu bazaar and then to suraj pole.
  • From suraj pole will proceed to fateh school reaching towards durga nursery road.
  • From durga nursery will continue towards ashok nagar road covering shastri circle and reaching residency road.
  • From residency road it will ply towards panchwati and end at sukhadia circle.

The Yuvaz One of  The leading Event Managers in Udaipur showed their magic once again. RKay Mall’s Hall became the Epicenter of A rocking party on 18th May. The Party was a huge success and rocked a crowd of  about 70 Energetic and enthusiastic youngsters. It started at 6.30 and continued till almost 10.It was based Upon – Bollywood Black And White theme and was a Torched Themed Party.

Exclusive Madaar Video & Lakes Visit

Here We Are Udaipur!!! Again It was an Awesome Mausam Yesterday.. So Planned out to Pay a Visit To Both The Lakes (Pichola and Fatehsagar) and Also We Had a Visit to Beautiful Place – Gangaur Ghat – It Is The Best Place to See Lake Pichola From a Different Angle. Than We Had A Visit to Swaroop Sagar Lake. After Getting a Few Pictures from Their we Visited Wolkem Garden Before Fatehsagar.

Finally We Were at FatehSagar 😀 On The Entry We Could See Water Coming from Dewas Channel Via Swaroop Sagar. Than we Moved ahead It qas Awesome Seeing Lakes Filled With Water, 😡 But It felt Bad that the Water Plant(Jal Kumbhi) From Swaroop Sagar Also Moved Into The Lakes 🙁 . Then We Paid a Visit to Main Gates Of Fatehsagar Pal (Water Level Reached – 3) .

But the Real Thing That Made Pleasure was  Seeing The Madaar Water Coming Into The Fatehsagar (On Dewali Side Entry). It Was Lovely and Without Wasting Much Time We Took Videos and Pictures. 😀 😀

Why am I Proud Of My Country

We wish all the Fellow Indians a Very Happy Independence Day.

Let us take a look at the glories of our Country:

Interesting facts about India –

* India never invaded any country in her last 100000 years of history.
* When many cultures were only nomadic forest dwellers over 5000 years ago, Indians established Harappan culture in Sindhu Valley (Indus Valley Civilization)
* The name ‘India’ is derived from the River Indus, the valleys around which were the home of the early settlers. The Aryan worshippers referred to the river Indus as the Sindhu.

* Chess was invented in India.

* Algebra, Trigonometry and Calculus are studies, which originated in India.

* The ‘Place Value System’ and the ‘Decimal System’ were developed in India in 100 B.C.

* The World’s First Granite Temple is the Brihadeswara Temple at Tanjavur, Tamil Nadu. The shikhara of the temple is made from a single 80-tonne piece of granite. This magnificent temple was built in just five years, (between 1004 AD and 1009 AD) during the reign of Rajaraja Chola.

* India is the largest democracy in the world, the 6th largest Country in the world, and one of the most ancient civilizations.

* The world’s highest cricket ground is in Chail, Himachal Pradesh. Built in 1893 after leveling a hilltop, this cricket pitch is 2444 meters above sea level.

* India has the largest number of Post Offices in the world.

* The largest employer in the world is the Indian Railways, employing over a million people.

* The world’s first university was established in Takshila in 700 BC. More than 10,500 students from all over the world studied more than 60 subjects. The University of Nalanda built in the 4th century was one of the greatest achievements of ancient India in the field of education.

* Ayurveda is the earliest school of medicine known to mankind. The Father of Medicine, Charaka, consolidated Ayurveda 2500 years ago.

* India was one of the richest countries till the time of British rule in the early 17th Century. Christopher Columbus, attracted by India’s wealth, had come looking for a sea route to India when he discovered America by mistake.

* The Art of Navigation & Navigating was born in the river Sindh over 6000 years ago. The very word Navigation is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘NAVGATIH’. The word navy is also derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Nou’.

* Bhaskaracharya rightly calculated the time taken by the earth to orbit the Sun hundreds of years before the astronomer Smart. According to his calculation, the time taken by the Earth to orbit the Sun was 365.258756484 days.

* The value of “pi” was first calculated by the Indian Mathematician Budhayana, and he explained the concept of what is known as the Pythagorean Theorem. He discovered this in the 6th century, long before the European mathematicians.

* Algebra, Trigonometry and Calculus also originated in India.Quadratic Equations were used by Sridharacharya in the 11th century. The largest numbers the Greeks and the Romans used were 106 whereas Hindus used numbers as big as 10*53 (i.e. 10 to the power of 53) with specific names as early as 5000 B.C.during the Vedic period.Even today, the largest used number is Terra: 10*12(10 to the power of 12).

* Until 1896, India was the only source of diamonds in the world

* The Baily Bridge is the highest bridge in the world. It is located in the Ladakh valley between the Dras and Suru rivers in the Himalayan mountains. It was built by the Indian Army in August 1982.

* Sushruta is regarded as the Father of Surgery. Over 2600 years ago Sushrata & his team conducted complicated surgeries like cataract, artificial limbs, cesareans, fractures, urinary stones, plastic surgery and brain surgeries.

* Usage of anaesthesia was well known in ancient Indian medicine. Detailed knowledge of anatomy, embryology, digestion, metabolism,physiology, etiology, genetics and immunity is also found in many ancient Indian texts.

* India exports software to 90 countries.

* The four religions born in India – Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism, are followed by 25% of the world’s population.

* Jainism and Buddhism were founded in India in 600 B.C. and 500 B.C. respectively.

* There are 300,000 active mosques in India, more than in any other country, including the Muslim world.

* The oldest European church and synagogue in India are in the city of Cochin. They were built in 1503 and 1568 respectively.

* Jews and Christians have lived continuously in India since 200 B.C. and 52 A.D. respectively

* The largest religious building in the world is Angkor Wat, a Hindu Temple in Cambodia built at the end of the 11th century.

* The Vishnu Temple in the city of Tirupathi built in the 10th century, is the world’s largest religious pilgrimage destination. Larger than either Rome or Mecca, an average of 30,000 visitors donate $6 million (US) to the temple everyday.

* Sikhism originated in the Holy city of Amritsar in Punjab. Famous for housing the Golden Temple, the city was founded in 1577.

* Varanasi, also known as Benaras, was called “the Ancient City” when Lord Buddha visited it in 500 B.C., and is the oldest, continuously inhabited city in the world today.

* India provides safety for more than 300,000 refugees originally from Sri Lanka, Tibet, Bhutan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, who escaped to flee religious and political persecution.

* His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, the exiled spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists, runs his government in exile from Dharmashala in northern India.

* Martial Arts were first created in India, and later spread to Asia by Buddhist missionaries.

* Yoga has its origins in India and has existed for over 5,000 years.

Celebrating The Greenery – Hariyali Amavasya

The so called ‘Venice Of East’ is all set to celebrate its greenery. The last few showers have surely infused us with a lot of enthusiasm and excitement.
We can witness large stretch of lush greenery, the pleasant smell of wet soil and celebration all around.
Now we all are waiting eagerly for one of the most ‘happening fairs of Udaipur. Well you got it right its the fair of ‘ Harayali Amawas(Amavasya)’. Hariyali Amavasya is a monsoon festival celebrated on Amavasya or a No Moon Day of the Shravan month in North India. People mainly worship Lord Shiva on this very day for wealth and prosperity and for best agricultural season.

Huge fairs/melas are held on this day in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh. It is Among one of the prevalent and respected festival in Udaipur, Rajasthan and On this Day It is a Collector’s Declared Holiday, Maybe For The Local City Mates To Enjoy and Welcome the Greenery or Haryali 🙂 .

It is very well known event not only in our own city but also in the nearby areas. The fair at Rajsamand and Udaipur attract thousands of tourists from all around the globe. People of all ages, regions come to experience our very own city’s celebration. A massive crowd can be witnessed enjoying various rides, games, snacks etc.
The fair is accessible for two days out of which one day is specially open for the women. Women can be seen shopping, enjoying various games, rides, snacks etc. There are colors all around, loads of rides, lots of stalls, full on entertainment.The entire place holds within itself a very raw yet beautiful atmosphere.

This event is celebrated lavishly in various places out of which most famous are

  • Madhura Dwarkadhish Temple
  • Banke Bihariji Temple in Vrindavan
  • And many other temples of Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva.

This day marks an end to the Phool Bangal Utsav in Vrindavan Banke Bihari Temple.

Hariyali Amavasi corresponds with Ashada Amavasya in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. It is celebrated as Chukkala Amavasya in Andhra Pradesh, Bheemana Amavasya in Karnataka, Gatari Amavasya in Maharashtra.

Shooting of Battle Of Qadisiya Documentary

Hi Udaipies!!!! Udaipur is proud to host the Documentary being shot in our City near Lake Badi. Gathering the enthusiasm UdaipurBlog Team made a visit to the Shooting set in Lake Badi.

We thought that you people would like to know a bit about this Syrian Production. This is the largest documentary being directed in Udaipur (in terms of crew and animals).

This Movie being shot is about Battle Of Qadisiya which was war between Persians and Arabians.According to the sources Jamal Chukair is in the leading role. The Unit has lodged in ‘The Trident’.

“The most persistent sound which reverberates through men’s history is the beating of war drums”

The Production Unit Had:
20 camels
10 Elephants
100 Horses
100 Body builders (Indian as well as Syrian)

The Total Unit was of About of 300 People including the

The shooting was scheduled to complete in 10 Days.

The thing to be appreciated is that the entire arrangements and event has been organized and moderated by our very own ‘The CREW’. A group of enthusiastic Udaipies who hold within themselves a strong desire to do something for Udaipur. So they are into this Event Management work.
