Urban Square: The Largest Mall of Rajasthan coming in Udaipur!

Last week, while roaming in and around Udaipur, we happened to come across a new construction site. Quite a huge one it appeared, so out of curiosity, we thought of knowing about what this massive construction was turning into. Stopping by the site, we inquired about the construction; couldn’t gather much information apart from the fact that it was named ‘Urban Square’ and hence we ended up with more curiosity!

Urban Square Udaipur under Construction

Now, going by the rumors it is going to be a mall and will be functioning in a couple of years. Another mall, really???  What can be refreshing about a new mall!!

Digging a bit about what Urban Square is, we asked a few people in the same field. And we came to make ourselves aware of the fact that it is the ‘Largest Mall in Rajasthan’. Okay! Now, this was something very interesting to us and hence we decided to dive into this and meet the officials to know more about the next big thing in the town.

Urban Square Udaipur Elevation

After a curious and overwhelming conversation about the mall and its ongoing state and what all it shall offer to the city, we came to know certain facts.

First, it is going to unbolt in our city in Sukher, a couple of Km’s down Celebration Mall.

Second, the mall is going to be a mix of European style high street shopping.

Third, the total area of the development is going to be around 23.5 lac square feet!! Whoa! Indeed quite large, larger than the World Trade Park at Jaipur which is approximately 23 lac square feet.

We also could see some of the visuals and brochures of the mall. It would be a retail cum tourist destination and would possibly contain a large hotel (we are told Holiday Inn), high-end offices, commercial suites, banquets and a shopping mall with a multiplex. ‘All in One’ it seems.

There would be a market dedicated to the local retailers as well. We are told many National & International brands like ‘Mark and Spencer’ etc. are likely to tie up with Urban Square. A chain of eateries would also accompany the mammoth construction. We are also told that the Multiplex in the mall is also going to be the largest in Udaipur having 7 screens with a ‘Gold Class’. It is quite interesting to note that the area it is being established in, ‘Urban Square’ may attract some of the major tourist flocks that turn up in the city every year, visiting Nathdwara.

Aren’t you excited? Definitely, we are! Such developments can turn our beautiful city into a metropolitan some or the other day. As new projects coming in Udaipur, the facet of the city would change and surely we as Udaipurites can boast our city all the way more!

If you need any additional details to ping them on:

With every nuance of this Udaipur Collection, the designer Sabyasachi has mentioned each and every inspiration; from Maharanis and Maharajas of Udaipur, the Palaces,  Gulaal, The Sheesh Mahal, the Benaras Gharana, Mharo Gulabi (a ballad in pink), and Paheli. The Instagram page manages to justify all the above mentioned inspirations with some little poetic texts written in between the image that stuns the spectators.

To an interview given to the Vogue, he talks about his inspiration in detail. He says, “Whether the maharanis in their French chiffon with European flora and fauna print, the maharajas in their quiet arrogance, the exuberant interiors of their majestic palaces, their culture, traditions of clothing, their often eclectic tastes in luxury, all of those notions and insinuations come to life with my creative liberty in the Udaipur collection.”

psk in udaipur

The event was on hold since one and a half year and now is finally being executed. After a long wait and lot of trepidations over the opening of a PSK center in Udaipur, the Central Government has fulfilled the wishes of the residents of the Southern Rajasthan. This is a happy moment for all the people of Udaipur who earlier had to travel all the way to Jaipur and Jodhpur for getting their Passports done.

The long-scheduled PSK service was first to be inaugurated in the month of February but then faced regular postponing, and now finally Sushma Swaraj’s posts confirm the commencement of the service by early March this year. The announcement is finally going to solve the troubles of passport and other related problems for the residents of Southern Rajasthan. The same shall cut the cost of traveling to Jaipur and Jodhpur as a lot of people were unable to.

People have also spent a lot of money and time on agents in following them and sometimes they come across frauds as well. All the hassles shall come to an end with the beginning of a Passport Seva Kendra in the City of Lakes. This is was among the various services which were lacking in the city. The city is among the most visited in the State of Rajasthan by tourists around the globe; with no provision for the residents to avail a passport was a loophole in the given facilities for the people of Udaipur.

This indeed is good news for the residents of Udaipur.

The Inescapable: Udaipur World Music Festival 2017

“Music is a piece of art that goes in the ears and straight to the heart”. From past two years, the beauty of Udaipur is enhanced by the Udaipur World Music Festival (UWMF). Music lovers around the world flock to the beauteous City Of Lakes to experience the thrilling sounds of various artists. This year was marked with the second edition of the festival with 150 music artists from over 16 countries that united together to present a music that was beyond the barriers of language or genre of music.

Sponsored by Hindustan Zinc in association with Wonder Cement and Rajasthan Tourism, the Fest was conceptualized and produced by SEHER. It was a three-day event which unfolded in two phases each day; from 3 pm to 5 pm in the afternoon on the side of the scenic Lake Fatehsagar where two or three artists of different genres played for the audience and the second phase at the Gandhi Ground which commenced at 7 pm each day. It was indeed a glorious segment for Udaipur which was a great dais for the artists to showcase their music; raining ecstasy for the revelers who came to see the fest.

The Day One: When ‘Bam Lehri’ stole the show!

The fervor that ran through the audience by the performances of the various artists on the first day was a sight not to be missed. The first day was marked by diverse music genres performing on a single stage at Gandhi Ground. As it was commenced excellently by the musicians from Mozambique, Norway, Sweden and Zimbabwe, the band called them “Monoswezi”. As we met them backstage after their performance, upon asking about their experience after playing for a totally different audience, their response was, “It was a great experience for all of us and we were obliged and happy to play for such an enthusiastic crowd”.

The next performance following Monoswezi was an Iranian American Singer Azam Ali with her band Niyaz who introduced the people of Udaipur to the Electro Sufi Music. A Sufi dancer named Tanya accompanied them who danced on the rhythms and impeccable vocals of Azam Ali as she recited the poem (Aurat) of an eminent Urdu poet ‘Kaifi Azami’. She sang in Persian and Urdu language and her music was packed with immense peace and tranquility.

Their music is an epitome of the fact that music is a universal language; not requiring human languages to convey their message.

The final performance was by the very famous Indian Sufi Singer Kailash Kher with his band Kailasa. They, with their power packed performance, set the stage on fire and the audience was at the apex of energy and enthusiasm. They played some of their famous tracks concluding with their much famous song ‘Bum Lehri’.

The Day Two Afternoon: The Reincarnation of Saint Kabir’s Couplets

Completely mesmerized by the previous day performances the star-struck audience gathered for the second day afternoon performances at the Lake Fatehsagar. The performance began with Ablaye Cissoko from Senegal who collaborated with the Constantinople Ensemble from Canada for the first time in India and that too in Udaipur! Their instruments were vernacular and produced eclectic music that invoked the feeling of the true rhythms. It was definitely a ‘must listen’ form of music.

Next to them, commemorating the couplets of the Indian Saint Kabir was the band Kabir Café. They were much admired by the people of Udaipur. People from different countries and cities of India came to listen to them. As we ran talking to the main vocalist of the band Neeraj Arya, he revealed about his affinity towards the writings and teachings of Saint Kabir. The entire band is quite influenced by the teachings of the Saint and follows them as well. They sung their favorite track as well; based on the very famous couplet of Kabir “Moko kahan dhoonde re bande, mien to tere paas mien…… Naa mandir mien naa masjid mien, naa kaabe kailas mien….. Khoji hoye turant mil jaun, ik pal ki talash mien…… Kehat Kabir suno bhai sadho, mien to hoon vishwas mien”

The band also narrated and described the meaning of each of the couplets.

The Day Two Evening: The Knights of HotWater

The evening could not have been more beautiful, as the orb of night rose in the sky and electrifying music of the Indian Band Parvaaz started at the Gandhi Ground. The captivating vocals of Khalid Ahmed and Kashif Iqbal maddened the crowd with their music.

Following them was the band ‘HotWater’, which is a South African World Music band. The band’s eclectic music of traditional South African sound, mixed with a bit of folk, blues, and indie-pop rock was utterly loved by the people of Udaipur. They were a group of enthusiastic singers, dancers, and musicians whose mixed genre compelled people to dance on their tracks. It was indeed one of the best performances of the day.

The second day of the UWMF was concluded by a high-energy performance by Bangalore-based folk/fusion band, Swarathma. The lead vocalist Vasu was very passionate about singing for the audience of Udaipur as he chatted with us before their performance. In his words, “We are quite delighted to play on such a platform and for the people of Udaipur. It is going to be a great experience.” He with his upbeat lyrics fascinated the crowd; “Betaa sweater pehno….” being the most loved track of the evening from the band Swarathma.

The Day Three Afternoon: Like No Other- ‘Advaita’

The third and the final day started with a unique music of the Swiss-Cuban musician Yilian Canizares. The band played Afro-Cuban rhythms and Jazz renditions with Yilian playing the violin. Yilian chatted with us and seemed to be very enthralled with the response of the audience. The genre was new to the people of Udaipur but was received with utmost love.

After Yilian, the band Advaita, an Indian fusion band based in New Delhi performed for the people of Udaipur. Their classical based vocals amalgamated with the winter breezes on the side of the Lake Fatehsagar rendered a picturesque view. Concluding, they played their famous track which was also recorded with ‘Coke Studio’ and ‘MTV Unplugged’ and received acclamation from each and every person seated at the venue.

The Day Three Evening: An Evening of the Gospel Music

The stage was all set for the final day performances at the Gandhi Ground. The Italian band Officina Zoe initiated the event by their breath-taking music. The band traversed the boundaries of language as they sang in Italian and the crowd cheered for them relentlessly.

Dhruv Ghanekar commenced the second performance with vocals in Bengali and Bhojpuri. The crowd loved them and grooved with them as Druv’s guitar strings reached the pinnacle of instrumental music. The artist was accompanied by a vocalist who sang in several languages and a rapper. His performance ended with his much-acclaimed track ‘Revolution’ that made the crowd cheering “Once More!! Once More!!”

London Community Gospel Choir gave the festival an apt spiritual culmination. Their music included aesthetic pleasure; they are a musical ensemble of singers who were highly praised by the lovely people of Udaipur. The crowd went zany dancing when the choir sang one of Bob Marley’s famous songs ‘One Love’. This indeed was the best performance of the day. The crowd was singing and dancing with the choir and was a sight to be remembered.

As the anchor announced the dates of the Udaipur World Music Fest 2018 the crowd cheered with utmost joy as they looked forward to another great event coming their way!!

The people of the UWMF

The Udaipur World Music Festival 2017 housed thousands of people from different parts of the world. We witnessed different colors and patterns, different languages and attires as we meandered through the attendees of the UWMF. People from Indian cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi had specially come to attend the fest. The fest was indeed a treat for the music lovers and for all the people who love to explore the limits of the art. We met some people from Israel and Philippines who were in Udaipur and were awestruck to watch bands like of Ablaye Cissoko and with the music of Kabir Café. Let us have a glimpse of the attendees of Udaipur World Music Festival 2017.

Food for the Mood at The Celebration Mall

A healthy food, for a zesty mood!

There is always a reason to go out and eat! I love food and if granted a reason would definitely grab the opportunity to eat out at any food outlet. Udaipur has some of the most YUMMM food courts, one of the best being the “Food Court” at the Celebration Mall.

Food capital celebration mall

Being a mammoth foodie, I love to try out food and savor those smells, which I personally call the “Food-Aroma”. This food court has all those aromas to stir up your taste buds. Done watching a movie at the PVR or If you are tired of shopping at the mall, which by the way none of the ladies will agree to, you can go to the food court and relish some of the most appealing dishes and mouth-watering desserts.

I love taking pictures of food and upload them on various social sites; there at the food court one added advantage to people like us is the free Wi-Fi. Also I could charge my mobile as they had on table charging points.

Whether your friends want a treat or you just want to eat out; listed below are all the food outlets of the Food Court at the Celebration Mall (3rd Floor) that can suffice your hunger at any occasion:

Subway

Subway - food court celebration mall

We all so aware of Subway, for all the health conscious one’s Subway serves 97% fat-free subs and salads. They give you a choice that you can actually customize your subs or salads.  Everything is freshly baked and yes! Now talking about the taste, Aloo Patty and Roasted Chicken were quite fancy and I loved them; a must try indeed!

Soo Foody

Vinods cafe celebration mall

I met the man himself, Mr. Vinod, who owns and runs this chain of these outlets and is an excellent cook! The things you must try at the Soo Foody outlet of Celebration Mall are the very famous Cold and Hot Coffee, pizzas and garlic bread. I also loved the Club Sandwich they offered me.

The prices are moderate and the food is yumm! What more could I have asked for!

Bamboo Grilles

Bamboo Grilles - Celebration Mall

Bamboo Grilles is one outlet that is totally dedicated to Chinese Food. The veg-momos start from a very nominal price of 50 Rupees. What I personally loved was their veg-sizzler and chicken lollipop with a coke! The prices are relatively good but affordable.

Tikka Express

Tikka Express celebration mall

From Indian tandoor to Chinese tandoor they serve all. It is a franchise chain of restaurants from Chandigarh and has around 7-8 outlets across India. They serve both vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisines and their veg paneer tikka and non-veg chicken tikka was to die for!!!

Keventers

Keventers celebration mall

Some of us must be quite familiar with their shakes. Keventers is an iconic brand when it comes to milkshakes. It is a well-known franchise and has its roots down till 1925 when it first started in Delhi. Out of the 22 shakes they offer, I had some and found hazelnut and chocolate Oreo shake the best!!!

They serve in beautiful glass bottles, AND YES! You guessed right, you can take your bottle home! Voila!

Frozen Factory

Frozen Factory Celebration Mall

It is a Thailand-based Concept and has two more branches at Bengaluru and Lucknow. The fun part is that they make “live Ice-cream” yes, they made it in front of my eyes. I totally loved the taste and got quite carried away by the performance too! Haha!

Dosa Plaza

dosa plaza celebration mall

It is a Mumbai-based food outlet and has around 68 other outlets across India and 4 outlets outside the country as well. They have 104 varieties of ‘Dosa’; varying from Mexican to Chinese and yes India too.  A must try at the Dosa Plaza at the Celebration Mall Food Court is the ‘Maharaja Masala Dosa.

Domino’s

Dominos Food COurt celebration mall

Domino’s is a world famous brand and the cheese burst pizza is my personal favorite. Here in Food court, I tried margarita, country special, and Barbeque chicken pizzas too.

The Chocolate Room

the chocolate room celebration mall

It is an Australian based franchise and serves all chocolate stuff. Chocolate sizzler and Chocolate Avalanche are their signature chocolates and were too yummy as well.

These are the major 9 outlets at the Food Court, apart from these; there are some more outlets in the Celebration Mall that can quench your thirst for food good.

These are Barbeque Nation, Apple Delight, Café Hideout, Waffles and Shakes, Brewz Rock Café. Other than the above mentioned, The Celebration mall also has Mc Donald’s, Baskin and Robbins, Café Coffee Day etc.

In addition to this, they have a “Party Square” as well at the Food Court and have a ‘Hungama Game planet’ next to it. The capacity of the Party Square is around 50 to 55 people. It is a nice decent place to have a small get-together or a birthday with food served straight from the Food Court.

I loved it totally and ate my belly-full! Give it a try and check it out yourself, I am sure you won’t be disappointed!

Bon appétit!!!
