Sun can act as a real devil in summers. Times when you’re returning from your school, college or work and sweat envelopes your entire body, all you need is something cool to relax your body and soul.

Here are the things that you can try this summer and they won’t even burn a hole in your pocket.

Buttermilk (Chaach)

All the health conscious people out there, this is the great option that you can try to relieve your body this summer. A glass of cool mint buttermilk that will give you the energy to drag yourself for the rest of the day. And if you crave for sweet you can go for lassi as well.

Nimbu soda

Apart from bringing peace to the body, Nimbu soda is the great alternative to maintain your digestion. It comes in different flavors such as orange, cola, sweet, salty, etc.

Papita shake

Badaam shake

This drink is a necessity in summers. Cold sugarcane juice mixed with mint and salt will just quench your thirst like never before.

One layer of lacche topped with a layer of rabdi and a thick slice of Kulfi, if it doesn’t tempt your stomach, I don’t know what will. This Falooda will definitely fulfill your sweet cravings.

Cold coffee

Last but definitely not the least. This is a boon for all the coffee addicts in the city. Coffee crushed with milk, ice cream, and chocolate chips is just irresistible. You can top it up with chocolate ice cream by adding just rupees ten.

We all have come across those moments when we want to roam around the city but don’t want to reach anywhere. We just want to enjoy the music, winds soothing our hairs and raw nature in front of our eyes. At such times all we need is a perfect long drive with our loved ones and make it a day.

Here’s the list of roads which are perfect for the day when your mind is in the need of a long drive.

Rani Road

Whenever we think of a long drive, the first option that comes to our mind is Rani Road. Apart from the smooth road enveloping the beautiful lake, there is something in this place which wants us to stay a little more. You can see the entire Fatehsagar pal from there and the view is mind blowing especially at night. After few renovations the government made in last few years, you can also see some stone sculptures here that are perfect for pictures and selfies.

100 ft. Road near University Road

If you are desiring for a looong long drive this is an ideal destination for you, or let’s say ideal way for you. It starts from A-one school and goes all the way to Shobhagpura circle and further meets Sukher Highway. In case you are hungry, you can find all the kind of eateries along the way. From stalls and cafes to restaurants. It is usually less crowded at night so that you can have a peaceful journey to nowhere.

Shobhagpura Bypass Road

If you are at 100 ft. road this is one more way you can go for a lovely evening. For this road, you just need to take a turn to the right from the Shobhagpura Circle and after some distance one left from towards the Ceremony Resort. This is very less crowded and doesn’t have many shops. It will meet on Sukher Highway again.

Pratap Gaurav Kendra Road

It can be reached from Vidhya Bhawan road by taking a right from Premi Paan corner. This is situated in a hilly area so you can have a wonderful view and landscapes and that too not much far from the city yet far from the chaos of the city. This road can lead you towards Badi road so in case you want to reach a destination after a long drive, you can land yourself at Badi.

Jaal Boraj road to Jungle Safari road

This road is entirely surrounded by lush green trees and natural aura. The cool breeze coming from Lake Pichola via trees will give you peace from your hectic life. This road can make you reach Jungle Safari, Golden Par, and Pratap Park. You can visually see Lake Pichola at one side of the road and even touch the water after crossing few trees and grass.

Chirwa tunnel Road

This road can be a very good option when you literally want to go out of the city and enjoy a good drive on a highway. It will land you towards the Chirwa tunnel and if you’re still not satisfied and want more you can go forward for Eklingji or Nathdwara. You can have some tea or even meal on the local Dhabas in the way.

With these roads above, I’m sure you’ll head out this evening with absolutely no destination in mind because after all the way is more beautiful than the destination.

Evenings at Fatehsagar

Back in my school days, I remember, I and my friends used to bunk our coaching and used to go to Fatehsagar. There is something in this place that doesn’t tire your eyes even if you are visiting here for the millionth time. The serene feeling you get while sitting on the pal, looking at the sunset and cool breeze taking all your worries away, for a moment it feels like it’s the only thing you’re living for.

Streets of Old city

Old city doesn’t look old any day. It is one part of the city which always looks decorated with different colors in the shops and all the traditional clothes and jewelry on the display of the shops. While walking in the streets of Old City with all the foreign travelers accompanying you it seems like you are walking in a different part of the city.

Monsoon and Peepliya

Whenever sky pours Udaipur with drops of heaven the first place that comes to mind is Peepliya. While I am writing about it I can literally visualize the entire road and place surrounded by fog. One cannot see more than a meter on the road, the fog is that thick. Tiny droplets of water will neither completely wet you nor will keep you dry. It feels like you are entering a place in the sky via road.

School picnics at Haldighati

When I was 11, the school announced a picnic to Haldighati. The first thought that came to my mind was that does this place has Haldi (turmeric) instead of sand? Well, to my disappointment it wasn’t. But I’m sure every other child would’ve thought the same. I was in awe of Maharana Pratap when I learned the history of him back then. The name of the place still takes me to one of my favorite memories of childhood.

Family outings at Ubeshwarji and Chandni Village

In the season of outings, these are the places that come to the mind of everyone’s family members. I’m sure all of you have visited this place with your entire family at least once. Sometimes we even take all the eatables there and make it a day. Jumping into the water with your siblings and coming back with empty stomachs to hot pakoras is not a distant memory, is it?

Weekends at Sukhadiya Circle

Boating in the pond of Sukhadiya Circle, having ‘chana jor garam’ in the garden and eating at one of the stalls outside was the plan on almost all weekends back then. Every Udaipurite has one favorite stall at Sukhadiya Circle. Although the craze for boating has reduced in Udaipur a bit, the kid in us still enjoys this place.

On this day, 18 April, The Foundation Day of Udaipur- let us know about our beautiful city of lakes. Udaipur- Then, Now and Further!

Then-

We all know that Maharana Udai Singh II founded Udaipur in 1553 but do you know how? In the 16^th century, Maharana Udai Singh II wanted to move his capital from Chittaurgarh due to ongoing attacks of Mughal. One day while hunting in the foothills of the Aravali Range, Udai Singh Ji came upon a monk who blessed him to build a palace at a spot which is now Pichola. He rejected the idea of building it at Ayad as it was the flood-prone area at that time. Further, to protect Udaipur from the enemies he built a six-kilometer-long wall with main gates known as Surajpole, Chandpole, Udiapole, Hathipole, Ambapole, Brahmpole and so on. The area within the wall is still known as the old city. Udaipur remained safe afterward as it was a mountainous region and it was difficult for the Mughals to carry their heavy weapons and horses up there.

Our ancestors put in great mind in the making of Udaipur. The majestic beauty and safety of the city were all in their brains back then. There’s a reason why there are so many man-made lakes in Udaipur. In ancient times, people of Udaipur had no source of water apart from rainwater. To solve this problem man-made lakes were formed which made a lake system with seven lakes. All these lakes were interconnected to each other so that in case of heavy rainfall, the water can travel further and doesn’t drown the city. The lake system comprises of Lakes Pichola, Rang Sagar, Swaroop Sagar, Fateh Sagar, Badi, Madar and Udai Sagar. All the lakes of Udaipur form a chain in the saucer-shaped Udaipur valley.

Timeline of Udaipur

1553 – Founded by Udai Singh II and Ruled by Sisodia clan of Rajput for next 265 years.

1678 – Fateh Sagar Lake built by Maharana Jai Singh which was improvised later by Maharana Fateh Singh.

1818 – Became the British princely states under British rule.

1884 – Ruled by 73^rd Rana when Udaipur saw major development with railway, college, schools, hospitals, and dispensaries all established.

1947 – After independence, the Maharaja of Udaipur granted the place to the government of India. Mewar was merged into the state of Rajasthan.

Now –

After Independence, Udaipur is constantly developing and now has become the dream destination of every tourist in the world. Udaipur, also known as ‘The City of Lakes’ or ‘Kashmir of Rajasthan’ is the romance fantasy for all the couples out there. The city has also been excelling in its massive historic forts and palaces, museums, galleries, natural locations and gardens, architectural temples, as well as traditional fairs, festivals, and structures.

After the smart city mission launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 25 June 2015, there has been latest changes and developments that all the Udaipurites can see:

New public parking constructed at various places like townhall, Nagar Nigam parking near Gulab Bagh, etc.
Many tourist spots have been renovated lately. If you have noticed Fatehsagar has been renovated completely in last few years.
Place similar to Fatehsagar is been constructed around Daiji footbridge near gangaur ghat where you can enjoy your evenings by simply walking and pleasuring your eyes with the amazing view.
Udaipur is also developing itself with the comforting hospitality that it provides. The city is filled with all kind of hotels and places where a tourist can find peace and enjoy his journey.
