Banking Services to remain unaffected on 26-27 September

Banking services will remain unaffected on 26-27 September since the 2-day nationwide strike called by the public sector bank officers’ union stands postponed.

This decision was taken in the view of consideration of an affirmative and workable feedback proposed by the Finance Secretary.

As it was prevailing news of the last week, the banks had called for a nationwide strike threatening to close the banking services for 26th and 27th September. This would have ultimately closed the operations for 5 days in a row (including second Saturday and Sunday).

Following the officers’ meeting with the Finance Secretary Rajiv Kumar, the union leaders stated that the government has agreed to look into the concerns raised by them and come out with some workable solution.

Banks closed for five days in a row later this week

Banking services will be hit later this week for five days in a row since four bank unions have given a strike call from 25th September to 27th September protesting against the amalgamation of 10 public sector banks.

The strike has been announced on 26 (Thursday) and 27 (Friday) September and 28th and 29th being fourth Saturday and Sunday (bank holidays), there will be no work in the banks for four days.

Further, September 30 is the day of half-yearly closing, therefore public dealing might be affected.

This long closure of banks might also affect ATM cash availability. Since ATMs have two days of cash capacity, it may face cash shortfall after 2 days since no cash will be added to the ATMs due to the bank being closed.

However, not all bank employees may participate in the strike and the private banks may be functioning normally.

Ban on single-use plastic

The government recently announced a blanket ban on single-use plastics. The Hon’ble Prime Minister, in his speech on the 72nd Independence Day, urged all the citizens and government agencies to take necessary steps towards scrapping single-use plastic items that end-up harming the environment and health on a whole.

To save our beautiful city from this harm, the administration had imposed a complete ban on disposable plastic cups, plates, and glasses long back.

We, as democratic citizens, have the right to question the government on what has been done about it. Why we still see single-use plastic in the market, in households, and other places?

But, is only the government imposing the ban enough? What role and responsibility do citizens play in making our city plastic-free?

Shopkeepers, vegetable vendors, food-stalls, all are using plastic bags to deliver the products.

Can the citizens help the government and ultimately the environment by being alert and active on reducing the use of plastic?

UdaipurBlog calls for your opinion on how we can completely remove the single-use plastic from our city.
