Top 5 Mouthwatering Dishes Worth Trying In Udaipur

One of the things that Udaipur is best known for is rich food that results from an incredible cooking style that is heavy on spices. This Indian city’s cuisine boasts elements from different countries including Asia and South America; precisely from China, Mexico, and Lebanon. What’s more, the cuisine caters to people with different dietary preferences including vegans and nonvegetarians. In other words, Udaipur can offer you pretty anything you want in terms of delicacies. If you are visiting the city, here are the top 5 dishes one of which you should at least try;

1. Thali Bhojanam

In English, the words “Thali” and “Bhojanam” translate to “metal” and “full meals,” respectively. Therefore Thali Bhojanam simply refers to full meals served on a wide metal platter.

Thali bhojanam is a popular dish not only in Udaipur but in the Rajasthan state at large. Also common in other North Indian states like Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, this must-try delicacy consists of several parts that bring out all the six different flavors or tastes of food. These tastes are; sweet, bitter, sour, salty, spicy, and astringent. This is in line with the Indian food custom where Indians believe that a proper meal should consist of a perfect balance of all the six flavors or tastes of food.

Whether you are a vegetarian or a nonvegetarian, there’s plenty of options for you as far as thali bhojanam goes. Remember that different variations of this dish are available. Vegetarian thalis consist mainly of different kinds of whole grains, vegetables, meats, and stuff that is derived from animals. These include rice, bread, lentils, chutney(a spicy Indian condiment made of vegetables or fruits with sugar, spices, and vinegar), and raita(a side dish of Indian origin that consists of yogurt that contains a wide range of chopped spices and vegetables). Non Vegetarian thalis include meat on top of the nutrients above.

2. Dabeli

This is a popular food in Udaipur that is delicious, filling, and very addictive. This snack delicacy

consists of the Indian burger bun that is locally known as “pav”, potatoes, and peanuts. It is also made of pomegranate and masala. The bun is filled with the other ingredients above, which are combined to form a spicy, tangy filling.

Many restaurants in the city and food kiosks downtown sell this delicacy as a quick snack that you grab with a bottle of soda. Be careful where you order your dabeli downtown as some eateries and outdoor vendors do not observe high hygiene standards.

3. Pav Bhaji

Pav bhaji is another tantalizing dish you don’t want to conclude your trip without trying. This top-rated delicacy consists of a highly seasoned meal of boiled, mashed, and slow-simmered vegetables. The vegetables are spiced with an incredible array of spices. Served on the sides of the plate are; a piece of pan-fried bread, a few slices of lemon, and sweet red onions. Each side item is in a separate compartment as the dish is served in a large, metallic, partitioned platter with several compartments. This is a terrific choice for vegetarians and nonvegetarians alike.

Just like dabeli, this is also a very popular delicacy in town and it’s part of the menus offered by many restaurants. Just ask for it at your favorite restaurant and you won’t be disappointed.

I even learned how to make it. All you need are ten basic ingredients namely; peppercorn, coriander seeds, black cardamom, some green cardamoms, and fennel seeds. The rest are; cumin or jeera, red chilies, cinnamon, and cloves.

For those who use a meal kit delivery service, you can obtain most of these ingredients from your meal kit delivery service providers. I know of like ten different meal kit providers I could recommend to those in search of a trustworthy meal kit delivery service. If you are one of them, you could check out Home Chef, Blue Apron, Sun Basket, Hello Fresh, Purple Carrot, and Freshology. You could also consider Marley Spoon, Everyplate, Grubhub, and Seamless.

Notably, each entity has something that sets it apart from the rest. For example, Blue Apron sets itself apart from the rest with its unrivaled gourmet meal kits. For more about each service, here’s a fact-based and knowledge-packed review post you might want to read (on the example of New York meal delivery services). By reading it, you’ll see why Freshology is the best option for those who struggle with weight loss. Also, you’ll discover which entity is the cheapest of all, and get many other details about these meal kit delivery services, including the advantages and disadvantages of each.

4. Mirchi Bada

Mirchi bada is another delectable snack you just must try when visiting Udaipur. This delicacy consists of a roll that is made with besan, which refers to chickpea flour used in baking. The roll is stuffed with a sumptuous filling of coconut, peanuts, coriander seeds, and carom seeds. For a more mouthwatering experience, the dish can be served with a spicy soup that is made with all manner of spices and herbs.

5. Baati

Cooked in many parts of Rajasthan(the state where Udaipur is located), this hard, unleavened bread is yummy and so rich in flavor that you won’t be able to resist it. The bread is known for its high nutritional value and long shelf life. For a more delectable, filling, and healthy meal, it’s commonly taken with dal(split pulse stew). You can also take it with churma(a melt-in-your-mouth side dish made of ground, crushed wheat cooked with sugar and ghee or clarified butter)

Final Thoughts

Udaipur is prized not only for its unique attractions but also for its unsurpassed variety of mouthwatering delicacies. For those who are visiting the city, there are certain foods that you just can’t conclude the trip without trying. The list includes thali bhojanam, dabeli, pav bhaji, mirchi bada, and baati. Try these delectable options or at least one of them and you can thank me later.

Although there is a partial unlock process going on in our city, we are still encouraged to stay at home for as long as we can. There are multiple things you can do while staying indoors if you are not feeling social yet. In between staying at home and managing your daily chores, you must get a little bored while staying put in your homes. Missing going out with your friends to have a cold coffee at Fatehsagar or sit around at Ganguar Ghat and peacefully see the water flow by? Well, since we can’t go out right now due to obvious reasons, you can always do something fun and productive at home to pass your time and take your mind off the constant news and updates of Coronavirus rolling on news channels and social media platforms.

Are you at a loss for what to do right now? If you have exhausted your Netflix selections and the prospect of spending another day on the couch browsing memes is too much to bear, it is time to shake things up and get your creative juices flowing. In the midst of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, 2021 looks bleak, and as we continue to navigate the state’s final lockdown, it can feel as if you’re being grounded for some reason. Staying at home may be restricting, but it does not have to be boring – there are plenty of enjoyable and productive activities you can do to pass the time, from keeping your health in check, learning a language to organising your closet, updating your CV to writing a novel – why not start right now?

Here are some productive yet fun things you can do at home during the pandemic:

1. Set Goals

Progress is what productivity is all about; it is about breaking down our long-term goals into everyday action so we can grow and improve. There are goal-planning journals and notebooks for everything from housekeeping, exercise, and diet to business and life goals, depending on what you want to achieve. Get a planner for yourself, set your routine, and most importantly – Stick by it!

2. Learn a Language

Remember how you said you would learn Italian, Spanish, or French but couldn’t seem to find the time? Now is your time to shine. Why not utilise this time to learn an entirely new language? There are plenty of YouTube videos and online lessons available. It is so important to learn how to say or pronounce some basic words in different languages so that we don’t make a fool of ourselves whenever we have a chance to go to a foreign country or even a restaurant serving international cuisines. Watch the video to learn how to say “Hello” in different languages.

3. Clean/Organize your Wardrobe

Clutter can easily accumulate in our homes as a result of our fast-paced occupations and hectic lifestyles, but it’s actually easier than you may think to keep everything clean and well-organised. Dedicate time and attention to sorting your clothes, decluttering your home, getting rid of pieces of clothing you haven’t worn in six months, and organising your clothes into groups, so they are simpler to find in the morning. Well, this your chance to utilise your free time to organise your clothes and sort them out once and for all.

4. Get Yourself into Reading

Reading has a plethora of advantages. There are many possibilities available to you whether you want to increase your vocabulary, learn something new, escape to other realms, or relax. Don’t know where to begin? Check out the books written by our very own authors from Udaipur. Please give them a read and let us know what you think about them.

5. Give Your House a Cleaning Session

Cleaning is not only beneficial, but it may also be soothing. You know what they say: a tidy room equals a tidy mind! Just answer honestly, when was the last time you had a good old cleaning session with your mother and father? Probably around Diwali when your mom makes sure you dust all the fans and clean every petty inch of your house. Taking a few hours to clear up a crowded room or office is not exactly the definition of “fun,” but you might be surprised at how useful a quick cleaning session can be. In fact, every time you clean up clutter or unneeded paperwork, take out the trash or sweep the kitchen floors, you may be contributing to a healthier and happier you. Don’t get me wrong; I don’t have OCD or something!

7. Make a Bucket List

We hope you will come up with some interesting travel ideas.

8. Plant a Kitchen Garden

Plant a herb garden with those green fingers – there’s nothing like cooking with fresh ingredients. Growing your vegetables not only provides fresh produce but also aids in mental relaxation. Drill holes in the sides of a bucket with a cover so that you can hang them on the walls.

9. Exercise/Yoga

Squats, burpees, and press-ups are all exercises that may be done at home without using any equipment. Stretch out in your lounge by converting it into a yoga space. You can even indulge yourself in doing simple yoga poses such as Suryanamaskar. Whether it’s your balcony or terrace, find an open, breathable space to do yoga early in the morning and then some stretching exercises to keep your body in check. Getting up in the morning and doing exercise will energise you and help you with an early start which will be good for a change.

10. Baking!

For all the sweet tooths out there, go indulge yourself in some baking and eat delicious cakes, cookies, and pastries at home. You don’t need many ingredients for most of the items. Lockdown and chocolate go hand and hand, so give in to your temptation and try your hand at baking. For starters, you can make chocolate cake from Oreo biscuits and do the icing by melting the dark chocolate bars that are easily available at the stores selling essential items during the lockdown.

Embark on a creative process of indulging yourself in fun and productive activities during this lockdown. Try new stuff, go beyond your comfort level, and trust us, you’ll be amazed at how good you are at the things you never thought you’d do. However, the most important thing to spend some time with your family. Reflect on your lifestyle and see what changes you want to implement to make it better. Let’s make the best out of the lockdown this year!

Everyday a Cheat Day during Lockdown? Know all the Diet Mistakes you are making while Working from Home!

Sticking to a healthy routine can be tough business when you are home and are glued to your couch for pretty much the whole day. Our normal routine has been turned upside down due to the nationwide lockdown. Many people are working from home, and no one is going out to eat, which could indicate one of two things. Either you eat nutritious, home-cooked meals, or you cook only to fulfil your fast-food cravings. While cooking at home is a smart option on any given day, you must be cautious about what you put on your plate. Whether you work from home or in an office, there are certain dos and don’ts to remember when it comes to diet.

Whether you work from home or in an office, there are certain dos and don’ts to remember when it comes to diet. So, let’s find out the basic tips and tricks you should follow to keep your body active and healthy during this lockdown.

Not Drinking Water/Keeping yourself dehydrated.

Diet Mistakes you are making while Working from Home!

It is critical for your body to stay hydrated. Because we are not sweating as much during the lockdown due to the restricted time, many of us avoid water. Water deprivation can also lead to overeating. Water replaces empty calories while also suppressing hunger, causing you to eat less. It also boosts your metabolism, which helps you lose weight. So bottom line, try to drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water every day to keep yourself super hydrated.

Overloaded Carbs!

Diet Mistakes you are making while Working from Home!
Source: Pexels

If you have packed your pantry with instant noodles, chips, and namkeen, you might want to keep note of how many carbs you consume on a daily basis. Excess carbohydrate consumption may result in weight gain. Furthermore, carbohydrates are absorbed too quickly, leaving you hungry too soon, prompting you to go for another food. You can easily come up with a diet plan that makes you feel full and does not let you think again and again about that hot chocolate lava cake every time you sit to work. Calculate your carbs wisely; while they are an important part of your diet and help you gain energy, having them in the whole form as well as in excessive amount can be a bad deal.

Eating without any schedule

Diet Mistakes you are making while Working from Home!
Source: Pexels

Munching during the wee hours of the night while binge-watching Netflix is not going to help you stay fit in any way. We take frequent food breaks in between countless calls, lounging on your couch, and staring at your laptop. While snacking is beneficial in that it serves to fuel and energise our bodies, excessive and unhealthy eating can have a negative impact on our diet. It’s also a good idea to put down your laptop and go for a short stroll or indulge in some little physical activity in between. You can have a fixed time for snacking and replace your snacking options from fritters to healthy items such as fibre cookies, nuts, etc.

Liquid Calories

Have you stocked up on cola drinks, carbonated beverages, and store-bought juices? It’s a good idea to learn how to regulate your portions. The majority of these drinks are high in calories, and some even include additional sugar, which can completely derail your weight-loss efforts. Instead of these packed juices, you can opt for fresh Nimbu Shikanji or a glass of fresh orange juice for a refreshing start on these sunny days.

Consuming Foods that are Loaded with Sugar

Diet Mistakes you are making while Working from Home!

It’s simple to grab a cookie or a chocolate bar, but it’s much more difficult to lose those additional pounds. Sugar is not healthy for our bodies; too much sugar leads to fat storage, and this is the kind of fat that is difficult to shed. If you are craving anything sweet, you can always grab one apple or have something made of jaggery to help you maintain a balance throughout the day.

Indulging Mostly with Fried Foods or Fritters

Diet Mistakes you are making while Working from Home!

Deep-fried bread pakodas, kachoris, and samosas should be saved for exceptional occasions; if you’re willing to lose weight during the lockdown, they can’t be your breakfast every day. “Is it raining outside? Let’s make some Pakodas with Chai while we sit on the balcony to enjoy the rain.” Are you thinking the same? While it is not wrong to fulfil your cravings every now and then, you can try and avoid deep-fried items and replace them with a healthier option. For instance, you can make some papdi chat or sprouts with sprinkled herbs to have the same tangy taste while you enjoy the rain.

Forgetting About the Existence of Fruits

Diet Mistakes you are making while Working from Home!
Source: Pexels

If you’re hunting for the most delicious snack in your fridge (which hasn’t appeared yet after looking for at least 10 times in merely an hour), don’t forget to include fruits in your diet. Grab an orange or an apple from the fridge instead of searching for a chocolate bar that you already finished the other day and haven’t restocked yet! Fresh, seasonal fruits are high in antioxidants, which can help strengthen your immune, restore important nutrients in your body, keep your skin healthy, and help you lose weight.

Skipping Meals!

Diet Mistakes you are making while Working from Home!

Making time to eat is vital because missing meals can reduce blood sugar and energy levels. You don’t really want to lose track of mealtimes and end up munching all day, especially when the fridge and pantry are so close to you at home. You don’t need to worry about anything if you eat the right thing and at the right time. Well, the dieticians simply suggest you set a mealtime every day and make sure you stick to it no matter what. This will help you reduce your overeating habit and stop you from snacking all day and at odd hours because you will already be satisfied with the meal you had earlier.

So, the bottom line is to take care of your food intake during the pandemic and maintain a healthy diet plan. Do exercise at home whenever you get the time and try sitting on a desk or chair rather than slouching on with the laptop in your lap. Remember to accept yourself the way you are! Cheers to a healthier lifestyle!

Our Little Escapade to Find Healthy Food in Udaipur

Is it more important to you to try the cuisine of a foreign city than to eat a salad every day?

Does the term “safe travel” strike you as uninteresting or, I don’t know, too healthy?

Well, it’s awesome to actually meet you. We’ll get along easily.

We consume a lot of food. Any local/traditional/essential dish and drink is researched, scouted, and tasted. There are always many drinks and special food items that we need to try when in Udaipur, which also turn us towards a pretty unhealthy eating routine. Well, to eradicate the junk eating habit of yours, UdaipurBlog’s explorers have hunted down a few places where you can find healthy, gluten-free, vegan, etc., food items so that you can live a super healthy and refreshing life. Whilst it wasn’t easy for us to visit every place in Udaipur, we have tried our best to list down the top 5 cafés or restaurants in Udaipur.

Watch the video to find some amazing and super healthy food in Udaipur with our beloved UB Team!

Healthy Food options while travelling in Udaipur!

Are you the type of person who loves to try out new restaurants and binge on tantalizing food options, especially when you are in Udaipur, the City of Lakes? Well, amidst all that binge eating, you may have gained some extra weight. Worry not! The super amazing UdaipurBlog Team has been on a little escapade in the town, searching for healthy food options in restaurants and cafés. Let us take you down some healthy and nutritious lanes of Udaipur to find out the yummiest and healthiest food options such as salads, smoothies, gluten-free Mewari food, vegan pizzas, and a lot more exciting varieties in various cafés.

Check out the same below:

The Fit Kitchen | Panchwati

So, the first stop of our healthy food hunt was The Fit Kitchen, located in the city’s prime area that is Panchwati. If you want customised diet plans including ketogenic, balanced meals, high protein meals, or even an A La Carte option, The Fit Kitchen is one of the best places you can find in Udaipur. We ordered a Shrooms Pizza, which was a blend of delicious flavours mixed with shrooms. The dough was completely vegan, soy-free, without any whey protein or wheat in it. The recipe is a trade secret! We also had the pleasure to taste Crispy Falafel Burger with Basil Hummus that just melted into the mouth like a dream! Their menu is pretty reasonable, for having such delicious and healthy recopies.

Shrooms Pizza – Rs. 299/-

Crispy Low-fat Falafel Patty with Homemade Basil Hummus and Tahini Sauce – Rs. 219/-

Address: 18, Panchwati, Udaipur.

Millets of Mewar | Sajjangarh

Our next restaurant for the healthy food hunt was Millets of Mewar, located near Sajjan Vihar. We ordered some amazing dishes made of healthy and gluten-free products. The restaurant offers a slew of food options such as vegetarian, veganism, gluten-free, Dietary Food, Millets special recipes, Slow Food, Traditional Mewari food, Fusion, and Raw food items.

We tried:

  • Millet Veg and Aloo Tikki (Gluten-Free), made of Crispy Sanwa, veg & potato cakes with sweet and sour tamarind sauce topped with amaranth. Price: Rs. 150/-
  • Pad Thai (Gluten Free) made with Stir-fried Thai rice noodles with veggies, Thai seasoning & garnishing of crushed peanuts. Price: Rs. 260/-

  • Leminto (Mocktail) made with a refreshing blend of mint, citrus & sweet. Price: Rs. 160/-

Address: Sajjangarh Monsoon Palace, 25, Sajjan vihar, near the biological park, Udaipur.

The Blendz | Saheli Marg

Our next stop during the food escapade was The Blendz, located near one of the most famous tourist’s destinations that is Saheliyo Ki Badi. The Blendz is an organic salad bar where you can prepare to leave feeling energised. A lot of colour on your plate means a lot of protein.

The ambience is serene, with indoor and outdoor sitting areas for you to feel the breezy and mesmerizing air of Udaipur. The café is famous for its Guilt-free smoothies, Cold-Pressed Juice, Salads, and Sandwiches.

We tried Sauteed Vegetables Salad with made with Chicken Breast grilled chicken, Romanian lettuce, Iceberg lettuce, Bell Peppers, Carrots, Broccoli, Cheese, Mushrooms, Baby Corn Mixed with Honey Mustard dressing. Price: 290/-

Address: Hitawala Complex – IInd, 1/A, Saheli Marg, Opposite Soni Hospital, Panchwati, Udaipur.

Pap’s Juices | Old City

Our search for healthy food landed us at this extremely intoxicating organic smoothie and juice store near Bagore ki Haveli. The oldest place in Udaipur serving fresh smoothies tried, tested, and invented by the owner himself. When the off-season comes, the owner tries various recipes based on feedback given from customers. You can find smoothies, fruit juices, fruit salads, and a mix of other amazing varieties at reasonable rates!

Address: Gadiya Devra Marg, Old City, Udaipur.

JJ’s Fruits and Juices | Ghantaghar

With a motive to promote healthy eating habits among the Udaipurites, JJ’s started a fruit juices joint. Since 1950 they are serving the people of Udaipur and are helping them to stay happy! They have two branches, one at Ghantaghar and the other located at Shobhagpura.

JJ’s was our last stop in our food hunting escapade around Udaipur, and we got ourselves refreshed by having some energizing fruit juices!

You all must try and visit these awesome places in town that serve healthy food that helps you maintain your lifestyle, especially in these testing times when gyms are closed due to COVID-19 precautions. Also, we couldn’t cover all the places, offering healthy food options, to visit in one day. So, if we are forgetting any such special café or restaurant that you feel should be on this list, then write to us at content@vivirmedia.com.

We’ll come with another exciting episode of healthy cafés in Udaipur! Till then, stay safe!

Treat Yourself Right With These Pedicure Tools

With frequent walking and inadequate skincare, our feet appear to get rough. And, staying inside for weeks might have led your toenails to look a little less than their best. If you are yearning for that smooth feeling that a good pedicure leaves you with, get your pedicure gear in motion. It is possible to get a professional-seeming pedicure without stepping outside, with all the essential pedicure tools at home.

The first step to giving yourself a perfect pedicure at home comprises some basic dos and dont’s.

Given below are steps to get dainty looking feet in no time:

Gather the Essential Pedicure Tools

Make sure that your pedicure kit tools are up-to-date. For an at-home pedicure, you should have the following pedicure tools:

  1. Nail clipper and file
  2. Nail polish remover
  3. Cuticle pusher
  4. Nail buffer
  5. Pumice stone
  6. Exfoliating Scrub and foot mask
  7. Cuticle nippers and toe separator

Trim Your Toenails

Using a straight nail clipper, create a straight line, and avoid ingrown toenails. Once done, file the toenails smooth in one direction.

Go Gentle on Cuticles

Repeat less is more as a mantra while treating your cuticles. Be gentle with your cuticle pusher while using it. Push back any waxy build-up on your natural toenail plate and clear the cuticle area. This pedicure tool detaches cuticle build-up from the natural nail. It also helps nail polish stay longer on your nails. After this step, use the cuticle trimmer and trim only the dead skin.

Exfoliate Rough Heels

Start by soaking your feet to soften and help remove dead skin. Using your foot file, buff the rough areas of the feet. Focus on the cracks of the heel edges since calluses tend to occur there.

Treat Feet to a Foot Mask

An essential pedicure tool, the foot mask, helps to extend the life of your baby-soft skin days after a pedicure. For dry feet, opt for a moisturizing mask that will nourish your skin on the soles and leave them silky-smooth. Soak your feet for an extra ten minutes for added relaxation after rinsing off the mask.

Base Coat is a Must

Always follow the rule of using a base boat before coloring your nails. Do not skip this step as it prevents chipping and yellowing nails caused by using dark nail polishes. It does not take more than a few extra minutes for application.

Apply Nail Polish

Toes are a great place to play with bolder nail polish shades as you can hide them if required. There are nail polish trends that range from bright colors to subtle ones and then there is nail art too. You can always go for a pop of color that looks good on all skin tones. Otherwise, if you prefer to keep things classic, sheer nude color is a safe bet. Make sure not to apply a thick layer and instead layer on thin coats with adequate time in between for drying. Doing so will provide you with perfectly polished nails without scratches or marks.

Seal Your Color

To ensure that your nail polish does not chip off easily, always apply a long-wear top coat. This hack will keep your toenails shiny for a long time.

Do Not Forget Cuticle Oil

If you want strong and healthy nails, cuticle oil is key. Always remember to apply some of it after painting your nails.

Give yourself a salon-worthy pedicure at home by following this regime and treat your feet right. It is essential to maintain proper foot health. And, to ensure that nothing hampers your at-home pedicure, make sure that you have the latest pedicure kit tools. If you want a variety of options to choose from, opt for luxury brands like Vega. They have all the newest pedicure tools with variations like their 4-in 1 pedicure tool product and pumice stone and brush in one product.

Become a nail pro with ease!
