Youth to Be Facilitated With Land and Finance under Young Enterpreneurs Incentive Scheme

Youth under the age of 35 in Rajasthan would be facilitated with funding for their industries along with land. The Government of Rajasthan is intended to encourage the youth and industries by offering concession under Rajasthan Industrial Incentive Scheme; the movement would help the youth to move forward. Considering forthcoming elections in the state, the government has decided to develop a cluster of small and medium sized industry through the Department of Industries and RFC. The projects from young entrepreneurs would be selected on basis of competition.

Rajasthan Financial Corporation

The selected youth would be offered loans on easy terms and low interest rates. RIICO would avail land in industrial area on lesser reserved rates and similarly the Department of Industries would offer additional rebates in terms of electricity, duty, vat and excise. There is a provision in RIICO to allot 30% land for small scale industries on reserved rates but in this scheme more than 30% industrial land would be availed in further less reserved rates.

Had to Take Decision: Small and Medium sized industries are in danger in the state. The village cottage industry in rural areas has almost died due to lack of quality, modern technology and marketing networks. The government has encouraged giant industries only in the name of capital investment from past one decade. Meanwhile the issues and problems of small scale industries have been overlooked. Large population is connected with tiny, small and medium scale industries and the government is trying to add them into their vote bank through reforms.

Government Undertaking is in Crisis: Several government undertakings providing relief to small scale industries, royal craftsmen and artisans is passing through a period of financial crisis from past several years. Certain undertakings are even striving for their wages. The government has provided financial aid to overcome the situation. Such undertakings include Rajasthan State Weavers Association, Rajasthan Small Scale Industries Corporation, National Handloom Corporation, SpinFed, Khadi and Village Industries Board etc.

Investments Increased – Not Industries and Employment: During the last seven years investment in small scale industries has risen but it has failed to generate proper employment in the region. The statistics from Department of industries revealed the facts that the investment has gone up from 155192.90 Lacs to 278806.43 Lacs from 2006 to 2012 but the employment rate in respect to investment has not moved much.

Self Help Groups are Not Considered as Small Scale Industries: There are around 2.50 Lac women in the state who are engaged in self help group to generate employment. The state government does not consider them as Small Scale Industries. These groups are involved in activities like making Papad, Rakhis, Mangori, Pickle, Stitching etc. Some women are running dairies too. According to the officials of Department of Industries that they face problem in registration as there are multiple proprietors are involved in the group and banks also avoid providing financial aid to such projects. It is recommended that such self help groups must register themselves as an institution to avail the benefits offered by the state government.

Problems of Small Scale industries:

  • Increasing competition in the market.
  • Lack of marketing networks.
  • Lack of managerial capacity and staff.
  • Lack of skilled and trained workers.
  • Poor quality of products.
  • Do not get government incentives.
  • Lack of appropriate resources.
  • Rising costs and declining profits led to closure.
  • Lack of marginal money.

Sculpture Symposium leaves behind International Masterpieces to be erected in the city of Udaipur

international monumental symposium

Monumental Sculptures are fascinating to watch. They not only provide a city with elegance and grandeur, they help define it. Inspirational and overbearing, these structures tell you a lot about a place and its people. Well it takes great efforts and determination to carve them in the first place. And to see more than a dozen of them crafted at the same time is surely an experience of a lifetime.

The First International Monumental Sculpture Symposium concluded last week in Udaipur. The ideal venue for it was the cultural village of Shilpgram where 21 artists from across the country and the world came together to exhibit their craftsmanship. This post is dedicated to the fabulous masterpieces that they left behind.

Bringing in their signature styles to their work, the artists who participated in the symposium had to deal with the Udaipur climate for a month to finish their works. The April heat and the windy showers that slightly jeopardized the ceremony at the end.  Now that the sculptures are ready, they wait for their installation at different locations of the city. So even though you might not have visited the symposium, be prepared to see the sculptures as landmarks in the city of Udaipur.

This giant effort has been successful because of Bhupesh Kavadia, a sculpture artist himself, who put together the idea of the symposium. I wish that this legacy continues in the future as the city of Udaipur offers the perfect setting and material for this kind of event.

However I might have one complain to make. The symposium went on for a month. I visited it for more than a couple of times to catch the sculptures in different stages of creation and to talk to the artists but I hardly found any visitors arriving on their own interest. The people of the city will have to appreciate more and take higher interests to make such events successful. Afterall this effort is incomplete without everyone’s participation.

Here is a compilation of works from the symposium: Video Link Here

Udaipur Nagar Nigam and its Benefits

Udaipur – Now a Municipal Corporation

udaipur nagar nigam

You might remember we had shared hopes for our Udaipur city at the beginning of this New Year 2013. Amongst them one was to convert the existing City Council into the Municipal Corporation. The Honorable Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Mr. Ashok Gehlot has showered the most awaited gift to the citizens of Udaipur while presenting the Annual Budget 2013-2014 for Rajasthan in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, 06 March 2013. A wave of bliss has rippled across every face in the city. People have welcomed whole heartedly the declaration and expressed their glee among each other.

The grant of Municipal Corporation has delighted the people of Udaipur. Although a long awaited decision has been finally made which has pleased everyone here at Udaipur. People and other social groups in the city celebrated joy by carrying firework and distributing sweets.

Of course it is right of every individual of belonging to the city to know the revolution it would bring after having the status of the Municipal Corporation. How the developments would take place and what other facilities would be introduced by having such a remarkable change. Let us summarize them all.

Development of Villages

The sphere of the Municipal Corporation would include many adjacent villages. Administrative and Development that were earlier taken care by the Gram Panchayats now would be executed under the powers of Municipal Corporation. Many new wards would be formed and people would get chance to become Councilor for their ward. Villages would prosper and flourish but in the limelight of MC.

Development of City on a Wider Scale

Formation of Udaipur Municipal Corporation would lead to open doorways for new big projects and that would certainly bring development on a larger scale. More developments & more projects would offer new employment opportunities to the residents of Udaipur and adjoining villages.

Enhanced Administrative Powers

The Administrative Framework would be revived. The Chairman would become Mayor of the city with improved administrative, decisive and financial powers. A C.E.O. of gazette officer rank would be appointed. Instead of one Commissioner there could be two Commissioners who would be working under the C.E.O. The pay structure and other emoluments of the Corporation’s employees would be revised. Thus it would bring cheers on their faces too.

Liberty on Financial Front

Municipal Corporation endorses more financial freedom as compared the City Council. Thus this would leverage better development of the City. Earlier the Chairman had power to release budget for Rs. 10 Lac whereas the Mayor can allocate a budget of Rs 1 Crore for the development of the city. Similarly the Commissioner is eligible to allocate Rs 1 Lac whereas C.E.O. has powers to release Rs 75 Lac for the developments projects. So one can imagine the pace of the developments would now take place in our city. Things lying held due to lack of budget would revive and run to touch the finishing line.

Better Education System

Inspired by the fast and improved development of the city would attract new universities and colleges to open. This would cater vast opportunities for the students and bring abundant employment openings for the residents. Thus it would certainly strengthen the economy and enlarge the size of Udaipur on a wider spectrum.
