A day like a Tourist [Part 1] : Destination Kumbhalgarh

Powerful kings and their beautiful queens, ruling huge empires, their breathtaking stories, magnificent castles that echo with the glory of their triumph, majestic lifestyle and inspiring victories, all these things always cast their spell on me. And I am sure that years back, while listening to your grandparents at your sleep time, these have enchanted you also.

Today, on occasion of world tourism day, I decided to have closer look of Mewar kingdom when my friends planned a trip to Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur.

As the enchanting sights of the fort, temple and adjoining places completely soaked me, I am hereby sharing my copious memories and experience of the day with all of you, the memories of which are still fresh in my mind.

The first destination of our journey was Kumbhalgarh. Standing at the large entrance leading to the fort, I was completely mesmerized, completely fantasized. Secured against the backdrop of towering mountains of the Aravali ranges, guarded by seven massive gates, seven defending walls and with numerous watchtowers, this mountain fortress has witnessed many battles, is strong founded and so is unbeatable till date. Built on a hilltop of 1100 meters above sea level it is stated to have the second longest wall in the world, with a perimeter of about 36 km, the first being “the Great Wall of China”.

Also called Kumbhalmer, the fortress is inter-weave with the rich history of Mewar rulers. It is the birth place of Maharana Pratap, the great king and warrior of Mewar. It derived its name from Maharana Khumbha who designed and built this unconquerable fort in the 15th century which was further enlarged through 19th century. The second most important and elaborated fort of Rajasthan after Chittorgarh, it was occupied by the royal family till 19th century, but now is open for general public as a museum.

The location of Kumbhalgarh has always given an added advantage to it. Being easily accessible from Udaipur, Ajmer and Jodhpur, it highly attracts and is visited by tourists all over the globe. Situated in the Rajsamand district of Rajasthan, it is towards the north-west of Udaipur, 82 km by road from the city.

The huge complex offering ancient remnants to explore was worth watching, comprising over 360 Jain and Hindu temples, numerous gardens and palaces, making it more beautiful and magnificent.

The most spectacular place of the fort resides near the clouds, “Badal Mahal”. It is the beautiful palace with fantastic bright contrasting color combinations of green, turquoise and white to the rough, raw and earthy fortress, making the view pleasant. The place, as per its name, gives the pleasure of being wandering in the world of clouds.

The day was quite moderate in temperature. Sunny after a rainy season, the temperature was of the weather was comfortable. During summers, the temperature reaches up to 25-42°C and varies from shivering 2°C to maximum 22°C during winters. The pleasant time to visit Kumbhalgarh is between the months of September to March. During monsoon the humidity may disturb your mood.

The exciting trip hasn’t completed yet. While I’m on my way to Ranakpur, and posting the article for all the UdaipurBlog readers, I will have to currently end this part and gear up for the next destination. Take a look at the pictures of the magnificent place, and I will catch up soon with the other part.

University Politics: The President Speaks

Paramveer Singh Chundawat

Student politics is back into play in our state. And after a month of severely heated atmosphere in the game of this very powerful fundamental step of our national politics, Paramveer Singh Chundawat of Chatra Sangharsh Samiti emerged out to be the winner of the elections in the second largest University of Rajasthan – The Mohan Lal Sukhadia University covering more than 180 colleges in 7 districts of the state.

Kalpit Rajak from UdaipurBlog got a chance to talk to him for a cup of coffee and this is how the conversation went :-

Q. Everyone knows Paramveer Singh Chundawat as the President of MLSU, will you tell us some more details about you? Your family and educational background!

A. Well…  I had held the 7th merit in my B.Com from UCCMS, then completed my MBA from the Faculty of Management Studies, Udaipur. I’ve also worked as an Assistant Professor in Sabar College, Gandhinagar for a year. While right now, I’m pursuing my management Ph.D from the same university and yeah my schooling went from St. Paul’s.
Talking about family… My father, Mr. D.S. Chundawat is currently the Dean of the University College of Commerce & Management Studies (UCCMS), mother is a housewife; have an elder sister who is a Doctor and a younger brother half the way through his engineering.

Q. You have worked as an Assistant Professor, also are qualified well enough to work in management sector, then why did you chose entering politics and not any other field?

A. It’s just that I wanted to work for the welfare of students; and thankfully I’ve got the best post I required to do it.

Q. As the students’ highest representative now, what are you plans to accomplish this year?

A. Presently I’m trying to fulfill all the promises that I made in my election manifesto. My major emphasis is on campus placements and a membership in the Board of Management (BOM). A healthcare center will also be opened in the campus for providing medical facilities to the students. Moreover, the old exam pattern has also been revised, paving way for more advancement & simpler qualifying.

Q. And what about cases like peons checking exam papers…

A. Actions were taken in that incident..! Moreover now the pattern will also be totally changed, (smiles) 😀 no peon can check an OMR unless he’s an optical reader.

Q. After your tenure ends, what future are you seeing to frame yourself into?

A. I’ll stay in politics.

Q. And who is your role model?

A. Wholly and solely, Mr. Rahul Gandhi!

Q. What role do you justify of your family and the former president, Mr. Dilip Joshi in your reaching to this reputable post?

A. The teachings of my parents are worth everything I could have ever had, they taught me for the best! And Dilip Bhaiya… has been my mentor… my supreme guide, my utmost inspiration in politics…
[DIlip Joshi– the record victory maker (margin of more than 1500 votes) in the history of student elections was responsible for the self-attestation rule and in ceasing lessening of marks in rechecking]

Q. Who are your other team members in the Central Student Union?

A. Nobody has joined yet, everybody was busy..! They’ll be soon in their office.

Q. Do you want to give any guidelines to the young students who are keen to join politics?

A. There’s just one rule- “Work for student welfare.” Help them heartily & that will make your way.

Q. Recently there was the famous movement of Anna Hazare, which was supported by the youth in almost each & every part of the country. In future, if any such problem arises; will you lead the students of this University as a part of the rebel; irrespective of the party it is against!

A. I won’t say that I’m against any party but yeah I oppose corruption and will support every movement against it. We ourselves are big fans of Anna Hazare and if things went well, Udaipur will be lucky enough to see him on our land soon.

Q. These days, the issue of not following constitutional reservation in the recruitment of Professors in MLSU is also in high light! What do you say about it?

A.  That’s the reason; we are trying for membership in the BOM! By the law, student representatives aren’t allowed to interfere in these matters. I; at my post can’t do anything right now but hopefully to my knowledge, proper rules…! will be followed in the recruitments.

Q. Any message you want to give to the students through UdaipurBlog.com?

A. I’m extremely thankful to you all for selecting me for this post.  You are my power… You all are my ultimate fuel! Thanks a lot.

Wish you good luck, have a great day…  🙂

mlsu exam pattern

Attention!! a very good news for MLSU students..!!  😀 😀 As decided in today’s meeting..

The theoretical exam pattern that included 10 marks objectives (10 questions of 1 mark each) and the rest lot of 90 marks for essay type long answer questions (multiple questions of 250 words and 500 words each); which had been the major reason for a lot of failures and the very common problem of not being able to complete the papers on time  has been replaced by a “Totally New And Effective Pattern

The NEW EXAM PATTERN for every subject will now consist of:-

  • 45 marks objectives (short answer questions)
  • 30 marks theory (essay type questions)

Exotic celebration of Rath and Kshama vani parv

The days during Paryushan have been at their best when people tried to restraint their desires and try to bond up with their ‘aatma’. The parv ended with a message to continue one’s expedition for finding permanent happiness and to swim through the river of ‘karmas’ to reach the island of eternity.

The day following paryushan, that is 13th of September on Ashwini Krishna Ekam, was a day of jubilation. Idols of god from every temple were taken in a ‘Ratha’ or ‘Palki’ for a round in the city with huge pomp and show. Men and women, children and aged move in the ‘Ratha Yatra’ dancing, playing traditional dance forms of ‘Garba’ and ‘Ghoomar’. Everyone was drenched in the euphoria of coming a step closer to their inner self during these 10 days. Here are a few glimpses of it where you can feel the colors of high-spirit and ecstasy aviating in the atmosphere.

At the evening, ‘Pooja’ is conducted in every temple when people pray for peace in the world. Praying is made to bestow god’s grace on everyone so that each one is granted with knowledge and a judgment to distinguish right from wrong.  In the end, people ask forgiveness from each other for their wrong intentions, words or deeds that have harmed anyone or have hurted the feelings and emotions of someone. The air around, along with the hearts, becomes pure with sounds like “Micchami Dukdam” and “Uttam Kshama”. As been said in an ancient saying “The one who forgives is always bigger than the one who asks forgiveness”, everyone exculpate the mistakes of others.

I, on behalf of Udaipur Blog team, bow in front of Udaipies and ask your forgiveness for any wrong action or deeds that have hurted one’s sentiments or personal faith and opinion. We will be trying our best not to repeat them in the coming years. 🙂
