Modern Tourism in Udaipur

The Traditional concept of Tourism is well known by the people, which includes:  Luxurious Hotels, Special places to Visit.  Specially in a country like India the list of such places is never ending. We have quite a long list of such places – starting from the Taj Mahal, Eastern Coastal Line, The Breathtaking beauty of Himalayas, the western deserts etc. But that period is long gone when tourists used to visit such places merely to Eat, Drink & Merrymaking, this modern period calls for improvisation.

Many tourists want to learn & explore more about the people they meet & the places they visit. This indicates that the present day tourism is more ‘Knowledge Oriented‘ or ‘Cultural Tourism‘. This is where we have an advantage over the others, Udaipur is blessed with all the characteristics which will undoubtedly make us a leader in the present world of Tourism.

We have so much to offer to the people – almost every place, palace and lakes  has a story associated with it, and the Modern Tourism demands exploration and learning, this is where we take the lead. Secondly, the Rich Heritage and culture adds to the increased interaction between tourists and local people. The tourists get a glimpse of the traditional life-style and culture and this is what matters. These small interactions, experiences are preserved by the tourists and these small things leave a impression upon the tourists which actually shapes the image of any place.

Ways to promote Tourism :

Multimedia presentations can be made available in the top tourist spots. These MM presentations would include topics like music, culture, history, biodiversity etc.

A Special emphasis to highlight the Cultural Tourism and Knowledge Based Tourism should be made in order to support them.

Indiscriminate Exploitation Of Ground Water

Water is a public property. Everyone has equal share over it,this concept is readily acceptable by everyone. But, what I feel is that the people have taken this concept into a completely wrong sense. This massive misinterpretation has led to acute water related problem.

For Instance, Some of the people are exploiting the ground water resources obnoxiously in our very town.

This was snapped from one of the 8 tube wells on either side of the 100 feet road near a settlement in Sukher opposite to the Maharana Pratap Khel Gaon. Near about 50 water tankers daily carry water from these sites. Each tanker has a capacity of approx 5,000 litres. It is seen that a water tanker makes around 10 trips in a day…..

It can be estimated that about 25,00,000 Litres of water is daily extracted through these sites.
The the thing bothering me the most is that
WHAT IS THE ADMINISTRATION IS DOING…!!!

SELLING WATER IS A SOCIAL CRIME
All that is below the ground (water, minerals etc) is a government property. It can’t be exploited without the permission of the government, whether be minerals, rocks etc… Water is a public property, and if someone is selling it to earn money,It surely is a SOCIAL CRIME.
It is clearly stated in the MUNICIPAL ACT 2009 that a person requires approval and a license by the government for this purpose. In case a person doesn’t do so there are provisions to impose penalties and fines.

Let us see what the Senior’s have to say :

Arun Vyas, Senior Advocate
The reason we cannot take any action against these exploiters is that there is no such government policy which restricts the movements of these vendors.

Anand Kumar , Collector
City and surrounding areas where the groundwater is being exploited. These sites would be checked and proper actions would be taken. We won’t let the ground water to be exploited.

Power Consumption in Udaipur

“And God said, ‘Let there be light’ and there was light, but the Electricity Board said He would have to wait until Thursday to be connected.”
Spike Milligan

15986044865736195886.jpg

These days temperature of Udaipur is on its crest. Due to heavy summer and immense construction work the call for of electricity has increased by 20 %. This year in the month of April the consumption of power was recorded to be 17.47 lakh unit while this data was at 14.58 lakh unit last year in the same month. There is an increase of 86.74 lakh unit in the five G.S.S of 132 KV and Debari 220 KV G.S.S. in the month of March. In march, 2009 the city was provided with power of 437.18 lakh unit whereas in this year 524.18 lakh unit electrical energy was provided in the month of march. Like this there is an increment of about 19.83 % per month in the utilization of power in the city.

Increase in consumption of energy in the month of March:

G.S.S Lakh unit
132 KV reliance 28.16
132 KV Eklinggarh 185.72
132 KV Sukher 71.71
132 KV Pratapnagar 113.73
132 KV Sisarma 96.56
220 KV Debari 93.1

Current utilization of electrical energy per day is 17.47 lakh unit.

Per day utilization last in 2009 was 14.58. lakh unit.

This year in March there is an increase of 2.89 lakh unit burning up of power per day.

The total ability of 132 KV and 220 KV GSS 575 MV. Techinacally udaipur is able to produce such a large amount of electricity till 2020.

As per the above data we can see that as the time pass need of energy increases, but we don’t have sufficient resource to cope up with the amount of power consumed. So we are desperate need to conserve electricity. Following are some ways to conserve electricity.

Cut down on your cooling bill

  • Adjust your air conditioner thermostat to 75 degrees.
  • Use portable fans and ceiling fans to circulate air.
  • Open your windows early in the morning to let cool air in the shut them later in the day when the temperature begins to go up.
  • Close your blinds and curtains in the afternoon to cut back on the amount of sunlight that heats up your home.
  • Use microwaves or fix cold meals on hot days to keep your appliances from warming up your home.
  • Hang your laundry on a clothesline to avoid warming up your home with a clothes dryer.
  • Run your dishwasher, clothes dryer, etc. in the evening when it’s cooler.
  • Plant deciduous trees (trees that have leaves that fall off in autumn) in your yard to provide shade during the summer to cool your home and yard.

Cut down on your heating bill

  • Set your heater’s thermostat to 65 degrees during the day.
  • Set your heater’s thermostat to 55 degrees during the night.
  • Wear extra layers of clothing to keep you warm in cool weather.
  • Open your curtains and blinds during the day to let light in to heat up your home.
  • Close your curtains and blinds as soon as the sun begins to set to keep heat from escaping through the windows.
  • Cook hot meals so your oven and stove can help heat up your home.
  • Plant deciduous trees (trees that have leaves that fall off in autumn) in your yard so that their leaves won’t block the sunlight in winter.
  • Replace your heating system filters every three months.

Cut down your lighting bill

  • Use compact florescent bulbs.  They use less energy and last longer.
  • Turn your lights off whenever you leave the room.
  • Use task lighting instead of lighting up the whole room.
  • Use a dimmer switch or candles for a romantic evening.
  • Use lower watt light bulbs.
  • Use a desk light or lamp on your end table instead of lighting up the whole room.
  • Use exterior security lights with motion sensors instead of leaving your porch light on.
  • Use window treatments that let in lots of light.
  • Install skylights if you can afford it.

Save electricity in your kitchen

  • Use microwaves or fix cold meals to cut back on using electric stoves or ovens.
  • Set your refrigerator thermostat to 40 degrees and use a thermometer to verify that the temperature is correct.
  • Keep your refrigerator door closed as much as possible (keep food in the same place so you won’t have to hunt for it with the door open).
  • Set your freezer thermostat to 5 degrees and use a thermometer to verify that the temperature is correct.
  • Keep your freezer full.  Cold foods keep each other cool.
  • Defrost your freezer before ice builds up to 1/4 inch.
  • Buy EnergyStar compliant refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, microwave ovens, stoves, ovens, etc.  They use less electricity.
  • Run your dishwasher wish a full load.

Conserving energy will help us protect our air, water, soil, wildlife, and pocketbook, so try your best to conserve energy.

Save Water

Udaipur -> Today’s ‘Venice’ or tomorrow’s ‘Sahara’ ….?

The hour demands immediate concern towards water conservation. If we do not take appropriate steps than soon the ‘Lake City’ won’t be anything else than ‘Sand City’

Water Harvesting system is nothing new to Indian agriculture. Specially in Rajasthan, a chronic drought prone area, practice of roof-top rain water harvesting techniques and water collection methods for drinking purpose is centuries old.

What is Rain Water Harvesting?

It simply means collection and storage of rainwater by some mechanism to make water available for future use. A large amount of precipitation, which is generally lost as surface flow can be harvested and stored for useful purposes.

There are several rain water harvesting techniques, but the technique of roof top rain water harvesting can be easily adopted. We exploit the underground water throughout the year than why can’t we donate a part of it to the ground again. All we need is 4 months .

Rain Water Harvest Plant:
The water reaching the Roof through precipitation is allowed to flow down by an exhaust pipe which can be connected to a filter which further empties itself into the tube wells.

As a result of this small method we can recharge the groundwater and prevent the underground water table from further deterioration.

Estimation :
According to a calculation

If 1cm of rainfall occurs over a roof of 1000 sq feet then about 1000 litre of water may be collected, i.e. if rainfall is of 40 inches ( approx 100 cm)  than a million litre of pure water will be collected.

Advantages:

The purification of groundwater will continue to be beneficial to health.

Electricity costs will decrease and the amount of ground water will increase.

This Will improve the quality of groundwater .

Excess water wouldn’t flow on the streets.

Please do support and comment.. After all ‘Each Drop Counts’

“CITY OF LAKES” The Official Trailer – Watch On Vimeo (Full View)

There are so many ways to tell a story…

And so much a marriage symbolizes. So many questions it tends to raise: What is love? What is faith? It was our hope to explore these themes in a far more dramatically engaging way than we felt possible in a traditional documentary… Perhaps there is more within this story then meets the eye.

In the fall of 2009, Melissa & Samir embarked on an incredible journey to Udaipur, India, to fulfill a lifelong dream of having their wedding in the country of their ancestry. This transcendent place, affectionately called the “CITY OF LAKES,” located in the breathtaking region of Rajasthan, would be the setting for their extravagant, three-day marriage celebration, and the backdrop of our unprecedented film production – shot entirely on-location. We believe this to be the first ever live event/scripted concept production ‘hybrid’ film produced on this scale.
