We all have come across those moments when we want to roam around the city but don’t want to reach anywhere. We just want to enjoy the music, winds soothing our hairs and raw nature in front of our eyes. At such times all we need is a perfect long drive with our loved ones and make it a day.

Here’s the list of roads which are perfect for the day when your mind is in the need of a long drive.

Rani Road

Whenever we think of a long drive, the first option that comes to our mind is Rani Road. Apart from the smooth road enveloping the beautiful lake, there is something in this place which wants us to stay a little more. You can see the entire Fatehsagar pal from there and the view is mind blowing especially at night. After few renovations the government made in last few years, you can also see some stone sculptures here that are perfect for pictures and selfies.

100 ft. Road near University Road

If you are desiring for a looong long drive this is an ideal destination for you, or let’s say ideal way for you. It starts from A-one school and goes all the way to Shobhagpura circle and further meets Sukher Highway. In case you are hungry, you can find all the kind of eateries along the way. From stalls and cafes to restaurants. It is usually less crowded at night so that you can have a peaceful journey to nowhere.

Shobhagpura Bypass Road

If you are at 100 ft. road this is one more way you can go for a lovely evening. For this road, you just need to take a turn to the right from the Shobhagpura Circle and after some distance one left from towards the Ceremony Resort. This is very less crowded and doesn’t have many shops. It will meet on Sukher Highway again.

Pratap Gaurav Kendra Road

It can be reached from Vidhya Bhawan road by taking a right from Premi Paan corner. This is situated in a hilly area so you can have a wonderful view and landscapes and that too not much far from the city yet far from the chaos of the city. This road can lead you towards Badi road so in case you want to reach a destination after a long drive, you can land yourself at Badi.

Jaal Boraj road to Jungle Safari road

This road is entirely surrounded by lush green trees and natural aura. The cool breeze coming from Lake Pichola via trees will give you peace from your hectic life. This road can make you reach Jungle Safari, Golden Par, and Pratap Park. You can visually see Lake Pichola at one side of the road and even touch the water after crossing few trees and grass.

Chirwa tunnel Road

This road can be a very good option when you literally want to go out of the city and enjoy a good drive on a highway. It will land you towards the Chirwa tunnel and if you’re still not satisfied and want more you can go forward for Eklingji or Nathdwara. You can have some tea or even meal on the local Dhabas in the way.

Evenings at Fatehsagar

Back in my school days, I remember, I and my friends used to bunk our coaching and used to go to Fatehsagar. There is something in this place that doesn’t tire your eyes even if you are visiting here for the millionth time. The serene feeling you get while sitting on the pal, looking at the sunset and cool breeze taking all your worries away, for a moment it feels like it’s the only thing you’re living for.

Streets of Old city

Old city doesn’t look old any day. It is one part of the city which always looks decorated with different colors in the shops and all the traditional clothes and jewelry on the display of the shops. While walking in the streets of Old City with all the foreign travelers accompanying you it seems like you are walking in a different part of the city.

Monsoon and Peepliya

Whenever sky pours Udaipur with drops of heaven the first place that comes to mind is Peepliya. While I am writing about it I can literally visualize the entire road and place surrounded by fog. One cannot see more than a meter on the road, the fog is that thick. Tiny droplets of water will neither completely wet you nor will keep you dry. It feels like you are entering a place in the sky via road.

School picnics at Haldighati

When I was 11, the school announced a picnic to Haldighati. The first thought that came to my mind was that does this place has Haldi (turmeric) instead of sand? Well, to my disappointment it wasn’t. But I’m sure every other child would’ve thought the same. I was in awe of Maharana Pratap when I learned the history of him back then. The name of the place still takes me to one of my favorite memories of childhood.

Family outings at Ubeshwarji and Chandni Village

In the season of outings, these are the places that come to the mind of everyone’s family members. I’m sure all of you have visited this place with your entire family at least once. Sometimes we even take all the eatables there and make it a day. Jumping into the water with your siblings and coming back with empty stomachs to hot pakoras is not a distant memory, is it?

Weekends at Sukhadiya Circle

Boating in the pond of Sukhadiya Circle, having ‘chana jor garam’ in the garden and eating at one of the stalls outside was the plan on almost all weekends back then. Every Udaipurite has one favorite stall at Sukhadiya Circle. Although the craze for boating has reduced in Udaipur a bit, the kid in us still enjoys this place.

On this day, 18 April, The Foundation Day of Udaipur- let us know about our beautiful city of lakes. Udaipur- Then, Now and Further!

Then-

We all know that Maharana Udai Singh II founded Udaipur in 1553 but do you know how? In the 16^th century, Maharana Udai Singh II wanted to move his capital from Chittaurgarh due to ongoing attacks of Mughal. One day while hunting in the foothills of the Aravali Range, Udai Singh Ji came upon a monk who blessed him to build a palace at a spot which is now Pichola. He rejected the idea of building it at Ayad as it was the flood-prone area at that time. Further, to protect Udaipur from the enemies he built a six-kilometer-long wall with main gates known as Surajpole, Chandpole, Udiapole, Hathipole, Ambapole, Brahmpole and so on. The area within the wall is still known as the old city. Udaipur remained safe afterward as it was a mountainous region and it was difficult for the Mughals to carry their heavy weapons and horses up there.

Our ancestors put in great mind in the making of Udaipur. The majestic beauty and safety of the city were all in their brains back then. There’s a reason why there are so many man-made lakes in Udaipur. In ancient times, people of Udaipur had no source of water apart from rainwater. To solve this problem man-made lakes were formed which made a lake system with seven lakes. All these lakes were interconnected to each other so that in case of heavy rainfall, the water can travel further and doesn’t drown the city. The lake system comprises of Lakes Pichola, Rang Sagar, Swaroop Sagar, Fateh Sagar, Badi, Madar and Udai Sagar. All the lakes of Udaipur form a chain in the saucer-shaped Udaipur valley.

Timeline of Udaipur

1553 – Founded by Udai Singh II and Ruled by Sisodia clan of Rajput for next 265 years.

1678 – Fateh Sagar Lake built by Maharana Jai Singh which was improvised later by Maharana Fateh Singh.

1818 – Became the British princely states under British rule.

1884 – Ruled by 73^rd Rana when Udaipur saw major development with railway, college, schools, hospitals, and dispensaries all established.

1947 – After independence, the Maharaja of Udaipur granted the place to the government of India. Mewar was merged into the state of Rajasthan.

Now –

After Independence, Udaipur is constantly developing and now has become the dream destination of every tourist in the world. Udaipur, also known as ‘The City of Lakes’ or ‘Kashmir of Rajasthan’ is the romance fantasy for all the couples out there. The city has also been excelling in its massive historic forts and palaces, museums, galleries, natural locations and gardens, architectural temples, as well as traditional fairs, festivals, and structures.

After the smart city mission launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 25 June 2015, there has been latest changes and developments that all the Udaipurites can see:

New public parking constructed at various places like townhall, Nagar Nigam parking near Gulab Bagh, etc.
Many tourist spots have been renovated lately. If you have noticed Fatehsagar has been renovated completely in last few years.
Place similar to Fatehsagar is been constructed around Daiji footbridge near gangaur ghat where you can enjoy your evenings by simply walking and pleasuring your eyes with the amazing view.
Udaipur is also developing itself with the comforting hospitality that it provides. The city is filled with all kind of hotels and places where a tourist can find peace and enjoy his journey.

The news of panthers being seen near Udaipur is not uncommon these days. The beast was seen sitting in a pipe at the site in Pratapnagar Bypass where the new building of the administrative block of Maharana Pratap Agriculture College is under construction. Another one-year-old female panther was sited near a hut in Kaya village on the Ahmedabad road. Hitting by an unknown vehicle became the cause of the death of a partner that was found in Kewada ki Nal, near Udaipur. There are several other reports of animals and men being attacked by panthers and Panthers being killed cruelly.

There are certain things that everyone must know, about Panthers, that shall save them in case of any unfortunate incident.

HABITAT OF THE PANTHER

Panther belongs Genus Panthera that has three more species viz Tiger, (Panthera Tigris), Lion, (P. Leo) and Snow Leopard (P. Uncia).

At present, the major carnivore at the top of the food chain is Panther (Panther Paradus). Other vertebrates in habituating the surrounding area are the striped hyena, jungle cat, Indian fox, Indian wild boar, squirrels, and rats. The Panther can survive in a wide range of habitats. It can thrive well in the open country, rocky, scrubby and forested areas. It can do well in arid mountains country and broken hilly areas. It can thrive even in close proximity of human habitations.

PANTHERS IN UDAIPUR SANCTUARIES

It is interesting to find that the two sanctuaries near Udaipur that have the highest number of panthers; Kumbhalgarh and Sitamata. The area-wise figures of panthers in different areas in the year 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 are Udaipur Pradeshik (29,31,21 and 23)Udaipur Pradeshik Uttar (11,14,13 and 17) Jaisamand (11,10,11 and 12) Phulwari Ki Nal (21,19,18 and 21) Kumbhalgarh (88,85,88 and 95) Raoli Todgarh (25,28,33 and 35) Sitamata Sanctuary (34,34,38 and 40) Bassi (09,09,08 and 11) and Bhainsroadgarh (7,7,8 and 8). The number of panthers in ascending order as per the last wildlife census was Bhainsroadgarh (1) Jaisamand (11) Udaipur Pradeshik (13), Bassi (13) Udaipur Pradeshik Uttar (19) Phulwari ki Nal (20) Raoli Todgarh (35) Sitamata Sanctuary (43) and Khumbhalgarh (101). There are a big number of animals like bear, wild boar, chital, sambhar, chinkara, wolf, fox, wild cat, chousigha jackal and different kinds of birds. Kumbhalgarh has the largest number of panthers due to its extremely rich biodiversity.

The wildlife census is done on Buddha Purnima in May as there is a full moon on that night and animals can be seen clearly. Workers of the Forest Dept. keep a 24-hour watch and count panthers etc when they come to drink water. However, the census figures are not always hundred percent correct if an animal comes to drink water twice during the period it might be counted two times. A single panther might go to two places to drink water and be counted twice. Water collects at some places where workers are not posted and the animals there are not counted.

PANTHERS ENTERING THE CITY

As compared to this year, the number of Panthers entering the cities was bigger. Most incidents have occurred in Udaipur and Rajsamand districts and that too in populated parts near the forest. It was so in Udaipur urban area but there was no conflict with human beings. People were troubled by panthers in urban areas like Rajeev Gandhi Garden, MLSU Campus, Chitrakoot Nagar, near Doodh Talai and Dhikli area.

It is interesting to learn the nature of the panther. It is afraid of man and in normal circumstances does not attack a man. Except for a brief period during mating and when females are rearing their young ones, the panther lends an entirely solitary life, usually within a defined territory. Like other members of the cat family, it marks its territory with urine and by scratching the ground with its claws. The size of the territory varies from season to season, as well as the type of habitat and availability of food.

HOW THE PANTHER PREYS

The panther feeds on a variety of different animals including cattle, sheep, goat, langur, deer, antelope, hare as well as smaller mammals and birds. Normally hunting at dawn or dusk, it uses a combination of stealth and cunningness to catch its prey.

Sometimes it lies in silent ambush in the branch of a tree but more often it stalks its victims and waits for the right time to pounce on it. It kills either by sinking its teeth in the prey’s throat or by a well-aimed bite at the back of the head. It will often then carry its kill that may be as heavy as itself, high up into a tree. Here it stores the prey safely beyond the reach of scavengers such as hyenas and jackals. After a meal, it usually goes to a waterhole to drink.

SAFETY AGAINST THE PANTHER

The panther is afraid of man and does never attack a man on its own. There are several ways of safety against panther. So, when one sees a panther, one should not try to run away silently but make one’s presence felt by making some noise. While passing through a place where there is likely to be a panther, keep producing some sound. Avoid going near it, do not disturb it or throw stones at it. People should not try to surround it but let it go away. If it is hiding behind rocks or bushes, don’t try to go near it and search it. It is better to inform the team of Forest dept. And wait for it to arrive there. If people stop surrounding it in 99% cases there would be no problem. Keep open all the routes for it to return to the jungle. To make it run away, it is better to stand at a safe distance and beat drums or firecrackers. For people in rural areas, it is advisable not to tie sheep, goats and small animals in the open. Cut the bushes near the houses, so that the panther does not get the place to hide. Whether it is day or night, never leave children, especially those under 12, alone. They should never be naked as then the panther takes them to be just animal. Let them wear bright colored clothes. They should not be left alone in the jungle. Do not allow young children to take cattle for grazing. Keep the doors of houses closed at night. It is better not to leave waste material near houses as it attracts dogs and other animals that are attacked by the panther. It is not safe to try to free small animals that have been caught by a tiger as it would incite it to attack human beings.

WHY THE PANTHER COMES NEAR CITIES

It would be relevant to know why panthers come near the cities and begin to harm animals and men. The number of carnivorous animals such as rozda, sambhar, langur, wild boar is dwindling fast. These are the animals that the panther feeds on. Thus, the food chain has been disturbed by us. No wonder hungry panthers visit urban areas in search of food and attack small animals there. Another main problem is the scarcity of water sources for animals in the forest.

HOW THE PANTHER IS BEING KILLED

One main concern about panthers these days is that their number is decreasing fast. The reasons for this trend are not far to seek. Places such as Chirwa Ghat, Bilota, Koler, Negadia, Ghodaghati, Bandaria Magra, Padasali, Gadrola, Diwer, Chhapli, Sangawas and other places in Bhim tehsil have a good number of panthers, hyenas etc. Rajsamand is a big center of marble industry and there is traffic of heavy vehicles on the four-lane road and quite a few of them are overloaded. They are driven at speeds between 100 to 130 km per hour and in absence of radium indicators of proper warning about the presence of animals, quite a few Panthers and other animals get crushed. So, there is an urgent need to build eco ducts, underpasses etc and put up fencing on either side of the roads in such areas for the safety of animals. Man has started killing panthers brutally when they enter cities and take pride in doing so. There is a provision under Vanyajeev Sanrakshan Adhiniyam 1972 through which Forest dept. files FIR against those who kill a panther or abet others in doing so. Such persons can be sentenced up to seven-year imprisonment. On one hand, most people are not aware of it and on the other, it is seldom enforced by the authorities. The panther has become the prey of greedy ‘shikaris’ who sell parts of its body for heavy amounts.

IMPORTANCE OF SAVING THE PANTHER

Awareness has to be created among people about the importance of saving panthers. Farmers have now come to realize that by preying an animal like langurs, wild boar, blue bulls, deer, antelopes, Indian hare and porcupine that damage crops, it helps in controlling their numbers. Thus, the animal is a crop-friendly one since it controls a number of herbivores in the forest and agro-system, it is also an eco-friendly creature. In areas where leopards have been wiped out, herbivorous plants can cause damage to crops. Panther rich zone can also attract tourists. Thus, animals can open new avenues for earning income in forests and rural areas.

A 2-day state level literary event is being hosted in the City of Lakes!

Young and talented youth from Rajasthan are taking part in the conference which is organized in collaboration with Rajasthan Sahitya Academy. The writers are gathering from various districts like Barmer, Nagor, Sirohi, Jaipur, Dholpur, Baran, Dungarpur, Rajsamand, Chittorgarh, Churu, Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh.

‘राजस्थान में युवा लेखन’ (young and budding writings of Rajasthan) is the topic around which young writers would discuss the forms of contemporary writing. About 80 young writers of less than 35 years of age are participating in this event.

The event inaugurated at 10 am on Saturday (3 February 2018) in the academy auditorium. Youth activist Pravin Ratlia was invited as the chief guest and Bhagwan Sahay Jatwa, Secretary of Udaipur’s Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC), was the special guest on this occasion.

The closing ceremony will be held at 11 am on Sunday (4 February 2018), in which UIT Chairperson Ravindra Shrimali and Maharana Pratap Agriculture and Technology University Registrar Priyanka Jodhavat will be guests.

On Saturday, Poetry recitation and storytelling sessions are being hosted in which lectures by experts and letter reading by the young writers will be the main attraction.
On Sunday, there will be lectures, recitations on various fictional prose genres.

During this two-day event, senior writers from all over the state, like Sawai Singh Shekhawat from Jaipur, Kundan Mali of Udaipur, Surendra D. Sini of Churu, Malay Penari of Udaipur, Naveen Nandana, Jyotipunj, Surendrasinh Rao, will works in close liaison with the young writer attendees.

Timings of the Udaipur Wax Museum: 9am to 9pm

The wax museum was inaugurated by Lakshya Raj Singh Mewar of Udaipur in 2016. The museum attracts not only Udaipurites but also a lot of Indian and International tourists. It is a great addition to the city and as photography is allowed, it serves as a superb selfie point for people to have their photographs clicked with celebrities.

Udaipur City Bits

Udaipur Today on 15-July-2010 after so many cloudy morning today we got to view the bloom of the sun this morning. But till the noon the atmosphere started to change and finally huge black clouds took over the vast sky of Udaipur City.

And it started to rain around 3.30pm. rain started from North of the City and moved towards west. It rained quite well for 15-30min. accompanied with Wind, in every region of the Udaipur City. As usual the pits got filled with water and it was water water everywhere.

Finally, We enjoyed the evening at Fatehsagar Lake Moving from Hiran Magri – Durga Nursery – SurajPole – Bapu Bazar – DelhiGate – FatehSagar.

Got to see that today. Traffic police were not behind the regular citizen drivers rather they were behind the Autos(Public Transport) Vehicles. Maybe the day was for for them reason maybe overloading of tempos or not wearing proper driver uniform or License.
