Get ready to delight your eyes with something crazy at MLSU

As some wise man said, “Art is something that doesn’t need to be confined within four walls, it’ll be as great as it is allowed to fly.”

Today, too many people try to come up with a contemporary art definition but it’s quite a troublesome task. While its title is simplistic and straightforward, its modern-day meaning is not precise. Fortunately, understanding what constitutes as “contemporary” is entirely possible once when one traces the concept’s history and explores its underlying themes.

What is contemporary art?

In the most basic sense, the term contemporary art refers to art mainly, painting, sculpture, photography, installation, performance, and video art today. Though seemingly simple, the details surrounding this definition are often a bit fuzzy, as different individuals’ interpretations of “today” may widely and vividly vary.

The Department of Visual Arts is one of such esteemed institutions which is providing the students with a world-class education in the field of visual arts. The department has successfully completed its 50 years. Some of the prominent professors of Rajasthan Contemporary Art are its alumni and the department is still operating under their high-class experience.

Various open art workshops are organized where the renowned artists from all around the globe and hardworking students get a chance to showcase their talents. One such workshop is ‘Udaipur Spring’19’ which is organized by the department.

The event consisted of 2 workshops, the canvas painting workshop was organized from 24th to 28th Feb 2019 whereas 19th to 28th was the workshop for scrap sculpture workshop.

40 Canvas painting and 10 Modern Art Scrap Sculpture were made during the workshop. The sculptures and the paintings that were made during the 10-day workshop speaks for the event’s success itself. Everyone was eager to contribute their bit to create something exemplary. Regardless of gender, female students showed some exemplary skills as well.

Around 50 eminent artists from all over the globe were invited to take part in the 10-day workshop

2 International Artists, 10 National Artists and 32 to 35 alumni’s of the department participated in the event.

The Artists were:

  • Clemens Sou, Vienna
  • Katherine Karlsoon, Denmark
  • Bhupesh Kavdia, Naseem Ahmed, Dinesh Upadhyay, Sandeep Paliwal, Rokesh Kumar Singh – Udaipur
  • Alay Mistri, Arpit Biloriya, Tahir Merchant – Ahmedabad
  • Hansraj Kumawat, Jaipur
  • Gagan Bihari Dhadich, Nathdwara

Prof. Hemant Dwivedi head of the Department of Visual Arts, MLSU wishes to carry forward the legacy which has been bestowed in his hand and also plans to organize an International Camp very soon.

MLSU: Wait for Examination Forms finally over!

mlsu logo

Already facing criticism for not having been able to timely clear the last year’s RL results and administrative mismanagements in the new exam pattern, another introduction proving the yet prevailing suffering of lack of staff is the introduction of Undergraduate Exam Application Forms at the end of the year.

While in the previous year, the exam forms had started being filled in the 3rd week of September itself, being late by more than 3 months directly point towards the shifting of examination dates. Introducing forms at a time when most of the students are home on vacations is also a decision that isn’t turning soothing for the students. Nobody wishes so but if the dates of examination get shifted, the most affected group will be of those in the 2nd & final year: planning to get into another University or looking for free time to prepare for entrance examinations which are held in the second quarter of the year.

On the part of the students, the expectations still lie that the exams take place in March-April, rest depends on the speed of administration and the diligent pushes of the Student Union representation.

As of Monday 24th December 2012, the exam forms for B.Com 1st, 2nd & 3rd year and that of B.A. 1st year have appeared online, you may get it from the following link & submit the filled application form at your respective colleges:

Wishing the students all the best and a merry Christmas.

Universities in Udaipur – The Campuses

Though Udaipur has been basically known for its tourism & cultural wealth but seeing the growing number of colleges in the city & a lot of outsiders getting attracted to study in a peaceful environment, here are a little details about the Universities in Udaipur.

Mohan Lal Sukhadia University:

mlsu udaipur

The biggest university in South Rajasthan with its 4 constituent campus colleges as University College of Social Sciences & Humanities, University College of Science, University College of Commerce & Management Studies and University College of Law along with the Faculty of Management Studies. The broad green campus has a life in itself. Low fees, large infrastructure, high class faculties, regular visits by dignitaries and day to day national & international seminars are the major attractions in this University. Having completed its Golden Jubilee Year, MLSU has been seeing a complete rejuvenation now leaving behind the slow years of the previous decade. The appointment of Assistant Professors in the current session has brought in its own kind of freshness in the campus programmes. Student politics is given a fair importance & it has turned out to be a good platform to start one’s political career as well as grow students’ political consciousness. Apart from the colossal number of affiliations, MLSU is also the current location of the prestigious Indian Institute of Management.

Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology:

mpuat udaipur

Less colleges but more quality. College of Technology & Engineering, College of Dairy & Food Science Technology, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, College of Fisheries & College of Home Science constitute the University in Udaipur (College of Horticulture & Forestry is located in Jhalawar). CTAE & CDFST have made a good name with their regular placement record with prestigious firms. College of Fisheries & RCA dwell upon excellence in the innovative & limited-market careers. CTAE, situated within the MLSU has one of the most beautiful campuses in the area with well maintained buildings and scattered departments in the greenery.

Indian Institute of Management:

iim udaipur

An IIM in Udaipur, a compensation for the demands of IIT brings promising returns. Though there are no direct admission benefits to Udaipur students (for obvious reasons!) but this institute will indirectly help a lot in the growth of industrial sector & improvement in the management & management education standards. First batch yet to pass out next year but as all know, be it any IIM; it creates a brand in itself.

Pacific University:

pacific university udaipur

The private University that has attracted the most number of students from surrounding areas & Gujarat in the recent years… With already 3 engineering colleges along with the same number of management colleges, the place has become the very first choice for average students opting professional courses. Though the placements provided aren’t too huge but at the time when some colleges are leaving their technical graduates with lost hopes, providing a job from campus without much workload is in itself a good sign. The campus is close to city. But with a large number of colleges rapidly established, expecting a big & maintained college building may disappoint you.

Geetanjali Medical College:

geetanjali medical college

With the first batch yet to come up with their MBBS degrees, the grand campus of GMCH is visibly clear from most parts of Udaipur. Having faced admission related criticism in its first year, the College is now on a smooth function. Though students still complain of lack of impartment of practical knowledge but seeing it as an establishing college, we can accept it as a fundamental shake down.

Sir Padampat Singhania University:

singhania university

University for the rich yet carries a risk. Campus situated on Chittorgarh route with courses offered in engineering & management. With a full mandatory residential programme, the establishment of this University took place 6 years back. Be it placement or faculty issues, the density of controversial rumors has been on a wide ground from this campus.

jrnrvu udaipur

The deemed University was last year on the verge of its recognition cancellation. Relatively old establishment but not taken as a favorite option by most of the students.

——————————————————————————————————————————————

Apart from these on-campus colleges, there are numerous other colleges too in the city affiliated to the above mentioned Universities or RTU & RUHS. Udaipur as a city presents a hub of academic education; the need of the time is to update the quality to the metro standards leaving behind the notions of theoretical emphasis.

MLSU : BCA Incomplete Examination

Mohan Lal Sukhadia University has become curse for the students these days. Studying in MLSU at 1970-80 was more like getting a good job and a good life but these days for MLSU taking examination has become difficult task rather than studying, for student.

Yes! One current case that comes across us is BCA INCOMPLETE EXAMINATION. Career of Final year students are on gamble these days’. Final year students who had put all their efforts from last 3 years to get B.C.A degree seems to have wastage of efforts in last few days of college.

With so many entrance examinations of M.C.A /M.B.A and GD/PI of several M.B.A colleges which are starting from 10 may onwards, University has not yet declared practical and project submission date. This may not only lead to late result but also spoil student career by stopping them to get into good TECHNICAL or MANAGEMENT COLLEGE.

The students demand their Exam as soon as possible before 10th May, 2012. We wish that authorities are listening and will take an immediate concern about this Issue.

Student and College life: A Quick Wrap Up of 2010

Students are a direct projection of youth in the city. They can never be avoided. Therefore their every issue affects us directly. We all do remember our movement for establishing an IIT in Udaipur. Past year has also been in headlines due to many reasons. Few of them are mentioned below.

1. MLSU gets its new VC

The most remarkable happening in 2010 for Udaipur was that the city’s own university Mohan Lal Sukhadia University (MLSU) got its Vice Chancellor after a long needy wait. This Year Mr. I.V. Trivedi sworn in as the new VC of the university.

college election udaipur

2. Young leaders on their way

One more remarkable happening for the year was that the student union elections were held after 6 years in Udaipur.

Mr. Dilip Joshi was elected as the president of the student union.

3. Advancement of MG College towards sports

MG sports academy established in the same year in MG College (Meera Girls College). No earlier such organisation was present in the college.

4. University to “ROOM” more brilliance

The Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Mr. Ashok Gehlot and Mr. C.P. Joshi initiated the foundation and hence the construction of a Youth Hostel in MLSU on 20th June 2010.

5. New career options, in Lakecity itself

MLSU introduced new courses in its curriculum such as M.P.Ed. , yoga, and B.P.Ed. ,for opening new vistas of career options.

6. President’s Udaipur visit

The hon’ble president of India, Mrs Pratibha Patil arrived Udaipur on 22nd December for the inauguration of the National KVK Conference at MLSU, alongwith other dignitaries, Rajasthan’s Chief Minister, Mr. Ashok Gehlot, Governor Mr. Shiv Raj Patil, Dr. C.P. Joshi, Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Sharad Pawar.

7. Rajasthan Technical University amuses people with its results

Rajasthan Technical University, already well known for all sorts of delays in exam conduction and result declaration, came into notice for the controversial B.Tech 3rd semester result. The exams were conducted in Feb 2010 whose results were declared thrice and withdrawn in a short span of time. Even after such a long period for checking and results, it was full of mistakes, such as a person from Udaipur scoring 477 in a subject out of 80 only, thus the scorecard claimed to get the person 113% marks. Few sources inform that another person from Udaipur was passed in a subject, in which he didn’t even appear to write the exam.
