Power Consumption in Udaipur

These days temperature of Udaipur is on its crest. Due to heavy summer and immense construction work the call for of electricity has increased by 20 %. This year in the month of April the consumption of power was recorded to be 17.47 lakh unit while this data was at 14.58 lakh unit last year in the same month. There is an increase of 86.74 lakh unit in the five G.S.S of 132 KV and Debari 220 KV G.S.S. in the month of March. In march, 2009 the city was provided with power of 437.18 lakh unit whereas in this year 524.18 lakh unit electrical energy was provided in the month of march. Like this there is an increment of about 19.83 % per month in the utilization of power in the city.

Current utilization of electrical energy per day is 17.47 lakh unit.

Per day utilization last in 2009 was 14.58. lakh unit.

This year in March there is an increase of 2.89 lakh unit burning up of power per day.

The total ability of 132 KV and 220 KV GSS 575 MV. Techinacally udaipur is able to produce such a large amount of electricity till 2020.

As per the above data we can see that as the time pass need of energy increases, but we don’t have sufficient resource to cope up with the amount of power consumed. So we are desperate need to conserve electricity. Following are some ways to conserve electricity.

 

Cut down on your cooling bill

  • Adjust your air conditioner thermostat to 75 degrees.
  • Use portable fans and ceiling fans to circulate air.
  • Open your windows early in the morning to let cool air in the shut them later in the day when the temperature begins to go up.
  • Close your blinds and curtains in the afternoon to cut back on the amount of sunlight that heats up your home.
  • Use microwaves or fix cold meals on hot days to keep your appliances from warming up your home.
  • Hang your laundry on a clothesline to avoid warming up your home with a clothes dryer.
  • Run your dishwasher, clothes dryer, etc. in the evening when it’s cooler.
  • Plant deciduous trees (trees that have leaves that fall off in autumn) in your yard to provide shade during the summer to cool your home and yard.

Cut down on your heating bill

  • Set your heater’s thermostat to 65 degrees during the day.
  • Set your heater’s thermostat to 55 degrees during the night.
  • Wear extra layers of clothing to keep you warm in cool weather.
  • Open your curtains and blinds during the day to let light in to heat up your home.
  • Close your curtains and blinds as soon as the sun begins to set to keep heat from escaping through the windows.
  • Cook hot meals so your oven and stove can help heat up your home.
  • Plant deciduous trees (trees that have leaves that fall off in autumn) in your yard so that their leaves won’t block the sunlight in winter.
  • Replace your heating system filters every three months.

 

Cut down your lighting bill

  • Use compact florescent bulbs.  They use less energy and last longer.
  • Turn your lights off whenever you leave the room.
  • Use task lighting instead of lighting up the whole room.
  • Use a dimmer switch or candles for a romantic evening.
  • Use lower watt light bulbs.
  • Use a desk light or lamp on your end table instead of lighting up the whole room.
  • Use exterior security lights with motion sensors instead of leaving your porch light on.
  • Use window treatments that let in lots of light.
  • Install skylights if you can afford it.

Save electricity in your kitchen

  • Use microwaves or fix cold meals to cut back on using electric stoves or ovens.
  • Set your refrigerator thermostat to 40 degrees and use a thermometer to verify that the temperature is correct.
  • Keep your refrigerator door closed as much as possible (keep food in the same place so you won’t have to hunt for it with the door open).
  • Set your freezer thermostat to 5 degrees and use a thermometer to verify that the temperature is correct.
  • Keep your freezer full.  Cold foods keep each other cool.
  • Defrost your freezer before ice builds up to 1/4 inch.
  • Buy EnergyStar compliant refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, microwave ovens, stoves, ovens, etc.  They use less electricity.
  • Run your dishwasher wish a full load.

Conserving energy will help us protect our air, water, soil, wildlife, and pocketbook, so try your best to conserve energy.
